ARG.

Just noticed my handy dandy 'update other journals' uploader seems to not be uploading over half my posts here. Sorry about that. Also noticed that it's messing with posts made under filters and putting them under different filters or posting them unfiltered, so NO ONE WILL BE ON ANY FILTERS HERE, and almost no one will be granted 'access', whatever that means.

My primary Journal is still over at LJ, feel free to stop by, and maybe I'll figure out the problems here at some point. ETA3: this may be changing, but it will not be a quick process.

ETA: And I've just noticed Dreamwidth isn't accepting my updater anymore as of the end of 2012. That's just great.

ETA2: I've used Dreamwidth's built in updater, which seems to have worked for now, though I seem to have duplicated entries and misdated entries everywhere, and if I mirror this way again it may all duplicate again, so mind your step. :-P

ETA4: I will be making this my primary journal due to a disagreement with Livejournal's new owners' TOS. This is going to be a very bumpy process, and I may have to delete all the content here and reupload from scratch. I also have no idea what I'm doing with the image library that hasn't uploaded here, and that all the links in posts are linking at LJ's Scrapbook. It's going to be a LONG process as well, especially with RL kicking me in the teeth from several directions.

TEA! \o/

I have found my tea kettle and tea pot (only a month and a half after moving :-P) and am having tea.

The migraine from yesterday didn't drag on for too long so I got a tiny bit of organizing and unpacking done, as well as some messing about on the internet. The kettle and tea pot were in a box with some bowls and other things I already had one of out and in use, so I kept thinking, "I'll just leave that. If I unpack more bowls etc I'll just let them pile up in the sink instead of washing them."

The water at the new place makes tolerable tea, though I'm still not sure about the tea bags I'm currently using. A pot of tea will probably keep me awake later from caffeine this late in the day, but oh well. TEA! \o/

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!

I've got 12 hours to pack up things and clean/wash/launder things so I can pack them and I'm at the "stare at thing I need to do and think of 15 other things I need to do first and end up not doing anything useful". In 12 hours I have to be loading all my crap on the truck. And sometime in there I should sleep some. I guess. AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!

On the up side, the internet is supposed to be getting hooked up right after I move, or possibly during if the Tech shows up when he's said he might.

ETA: it's 4AM. I need to get some sleep.
list of things I need to do by noon PDT )

It'll all get done because it has to. But it will require some loud music and inadvisable amounts of caffeine.

Weekend update: To do list

Right, so, I am moving in a week and am just realizing exactly how much crap I have to do yet, plus the regular weekly survival crap. Hence, list.

ANNOUNCEMENT

I've always said I'd stick with Livejournal until it dies, but the limit has now been reached. So, unfortunately, over the next long while I will be transferring my primary journal activities to my Dreamwidth fractured mirror.

You're all welcome to follow me on there, but I won't be friending back (or whatever they call it) for a long while until I can figure out how to reinstate the filters on some filtered posts. Right now everything is far too exposed over there. This will be a very rocky process.

I'm also looking for:
-Clear simple instructions on how to download and backup the stuff I have in Livejournal's Scrapbook, along with its folder structuring.
-An image hosting service that's cheap/free and reliable and offers at least 2gb of space.
-Places on Dreamwidth to find fandom communities there.

I'm sure more things will crop up as this process gets underway.

If I manage to write anything during this period, it will be posted to my AO3 account I do have a semi-active tumblr that I'm currently reblogging a lot of Merlin and random things on, and very rarely posting anything myself.

Well happy freaking birthday to me.

Got a call and a vague yet urgent message from the property manager at quarter after 8 AM today. Spent 90 minutes fending off a panic attack trying to get hold of him to find out what was going on, because his phone line was going to the answering service until 9 am, and then he was not in the office and I had to wait for a callback.

The landlord is putting the place on the market. I need to take time off work to let a realtor in to take pictures of the place, and then more time off work to let random people wander around in it whenever they feel like it. I've been through this crap twice before and the situation pretty much triples my regular anxiety levels. I really don't need that, especially considering tax season is in more than full swing and I'm already drowning trying to keep up with the crap at work.

In short, I'm probably going to move rather than put up with this bullshit again. Somehow.

Happy freaking birthday. :-P

In other news, I see some much happier birthday greetings in my inbox! Thank you guys, I'll be reading and responding to you later tonight probably. :-)

So, some dork pulled the fire alarm in the apartment I live in, and not seeing or smelling any overt signs of fire, this is what I grabbed. )

Video to zone out to.

"10 Minutes at Nubble Light House" by Hank Green of YouTube is lovely and relaxing. It's just a sunset, a lighthouse, and gentle waves.

Video: Historical Ocean Navigation

I found this fascinating. I'd heard of most of these things before but not really how some of them worked. Good reference for writing or roleplaying things involving historical ocean travel.

An Unaltered Version Of The Original Star Wars Trilogy May Be Released This Year

OH HOLY CRAP YES PLEASE!

To my knowledge they’ve never had a DVD release of the unaltered originals. I have the VHS set of the remastered but not CGI-added movies released in 1997-ish, a set which has been one major reason I have been trying to get a working VCR for the past year.

Bluray? DVD? BRING IT!! \o/

Thoughts about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

I haven't really ever been a part of the Harry Potter fandom proper, though I do like the books/movies/world, but I saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them today and found I have some things to meta/theorize/speculate.

Contains spoilers for film )

So anyway, there's my thoughts. Other people have probably had similar or entirely different thoughts and that's absolutely fine too. I'm not here to convince anyone of anything, I'm just here to babble. :-)

*evil cackling*

Look what I got for Christmas.
My caffeine levels are looking up! )

Meanwhile today, there is a gathering of friends later I am much looking forward to, and the list of things I need to do is getting shorter, but only because I am putting off until tomorrow a lot of crap there is no hope of me getting done today.

May you all have a fabulous day, and best wishes for a splendid New Year!

Livejournal Carolling Meme 2016

And so I keep my annual tradition of singing at you whether you want me to or not. For the tenth year. O.o

Since this is the tenth year I was going to try and do something weird and challenging and get into multiple vocal tracks on Garage Band... buuuut I suck even worse at that than I suck at singing. :-P

So, here is me tormenting The Christmas Song (aka the one that starts with chestnuts) )

Whatever sort of seasonal hootenanny you're having this time of year, may it be awesome!

Delayed Reaction and Meta: DC's Legends of Tomorrow 2.08

I have some thoughts about the midseason finale of DC's Legends of Tomorrow that I want to post. I saw the episode a while back, but it's taken a while to get my thoughts into words, and they still aren't very coherent words.

SPOILER WARNING: if you have not seen the episode and are avoiding info for it, this contains spoilers up to and including 2.08

SNAAAAAAAART!! \o/

I wasn't expecting anything going into this episode because I don't watch the promos or ads, and had no idea this return was in the works. I saw Wentworth Miller in the credits and literally screamed. I had no idea how much I had missed Snart. (Rick Hunter was a nice surprise too.)

Rory and Snart talking to each other made me realize how their speech patterns were in a sort of sync, and still are despite Snart having been gone for so long. And Rory's "I'll be dead like you" is haunting with the sense of how deeply Mick truly misses his friend and partner in crime.

Now, the theory: I think Snart was not a hallucination. Here's my thinking.

The way Snart died, it likely spread him throughout all time and space. Initially I thought it might be a Clara Oswald sort of thing where he exists in multiple periods of history, etc. But this occurrence makes me think he's been slowly coalescing. Pulling himself back together across time and space, and becoming a sort of temporal ghost in the interim.

Leonard's not dumb; he'd realize pretty quick after regaining the capacity to realize things that no one he was around was reacting to his presence, and since he knew he was going to die when he died, he'd probably assume he was a regular ghost. Maybe he's been trying to communicate and maybe he's just been sitting back and snarking. Maybe Mick's said something before that seems like he's responding. Not sure. Needs brain.

The thing is, Mick has never moved on from the loss of Leonard. Nothing shows that more than that quiet little 'I'd be dead like you'. He tried to make Ray be Snart-like. Rory carries that Snart-shaped hole with him everywhere. They were each other's best and practically only friends, the only ones they could get close to really trusting for so long. With that level of personal attachment housed on a ship that travels through time, it seems to me Mick Rory would act like a sort of Snart magnet. Gathering up bits of Leonard Snart wherever they land, taking them back into the ship to form a concentration that could begin to manifest as a hallucination or ghost.

Also, Mick was in the hands of the Time Masters for a while, and they made him into Chronos. This probably involved modifications that improved certain temporal senses. I think Mick is Leonard's focal point due to their personal attachment, and that Mick has begun to see/hear/sense him because he is closest to Snart and thanks to the Time Masters' interference, he is now the most sensitive to this sort of thing. Gideon may not be as attuned, or not have the same emotional connection, or it could be that Snart is on her cleared personnel list, so the Snart-like trace that has started appearing on board doesn't ping her radar, and since he has been accreting gradually, not appearing suddenly or entering through any of the Waverider's doors, so any trace Gideon may have detected has been waved off as background noise or minor interference.

So, yeah. That's what I think. As the Waverider travels through time, Mick Rory is acting as a magnet to bring wayward Snart particles/energies/hoody-hoo onto the ship, which have now conglomerated enough to be aware and snark at Mick for turning slowly into a hero.

Or something like that. It'll do for me until the series gets around to bringing Snart back in full. Because they'd better.

This is a movie based on the lives of real women in the NASA space program in 1961. And if there was any fairness, the Johnson Space Center would be named after one of them instead of a President.

The only reason I've heard about this movie is because I'm on the NASA press release email list, and the only reason I know it's coming out so soon is because I follow Chris Hadfield on Twitter. I am stunned that I have not heard or seen anything else anywhere about this movie (although I don't get to theatres very often and don't watch enough broadcast TV to see many commercials, so maybe it is being promoted well and I just live under a rock.)

If you are interested in women in STEM, equal rights for women and for people of color, NASA history, spaceflight, math, or learning about people history should have celebrated a lot sooner and a lot louder, this is a movie you will want to see.

(Note: I will also be posting this on my Tumblr page, so those of you following me in both places will see it twice)
