caffienekitty: (dr horrible - status not quo)
I've always said I'd stick with Livejournal until it dies, but the limit has now been reached. So, unfortunately, over the next long while I will be transferring my primary journal activities to my Dreamwidth fractured mirror.

You're all welcome to follow me on there, but I won't be friending back (or whatever they call it) for a long while until I can figure out how to reinstate the filters on some filtered posts. Right now everything is far too exposed over there. This will be a very rocky process.

I'm also looking for:
-Clear simple instructions on how to download and backup the stuff I have in Livejournal's Scrapbook, along with its folder structuring.
-An image hosting service that's cheap/free and reliable and offers at least 2gb of space.
-Places on Dreamwidth to find fandom communities there.

I'm sure more things will crop up as this process gets underway.

If I manage to write anything during this period, it will be posted to my AO3 account I do have a semi-active tumblr that I'm currently reblogging a lot of Merlin and random things on, and very rarely posting anything myself.

For those in range of a Tim Horton's (mostly Canadians) who might be inclined to order a latte from their seasonal pumpkin-themed beverage options (obviously not you, [livejournal.com profile] lurkingwombat, I know your general opinion of coffee) a small consumer note:

Tim Horton's Pumpkin Pie Latte has as a relatively unheralded topping, some graham cracker pie crust crumble stuff that goes on top of the whipped cream.

I suppose that's there to distinguish it as "Pumpkin Pie" rather than "Pumpkin Spice" in case Starbucks gets snippy about it (even though it's listed as "Pumpkin Spice" on Tim Horton's website). It is quite tasty, but they put it on top of the whipped cream in the lidded cups as well and not having had one of these things before I wasn't aware. I only noticed it before most of it sank to the bottom because I had to reposition the lid to avoid a coffee bath. As one does. :-P

So if you are avoiding gluten or wheat for any reason (or just don't enjoy sludge at the bottom of your cup) ask for the crumble stuff to be left off of your drink. Or if you don't have any issues with wheat or gluten but just don't like sludge, you can ask for a spoon to scoop it off the whipped cream and eat it before it sinks. As I mentioned, it is quite tasty.

This has been a Public Service Announcement from the Caffeine Network.

In Canada right now among many other stamp designs we have one particular one of the Queen and one of some baby groundhogs. So when I had to mail a thick envelope today, this happened:

fun with postage

"Come along, my adorable young rodent minions! We have great mischief to accomplish!"
"Yes, oh Queen! We hear and obey!"

Since it's July and the [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes July Writing Prompt Challenge has started, I'm hoping that (once I get done watching Sherlock 3.03 (O.O) and can come out of the longest spoiler sequestration ever) it'll be less quiet around here. However, as this is the first public post I've made here since... what... March??? I've already increased my recent monthly posting rate by infinity. :-P

What can I say, RL has been... horrendously annoying. :-/

Since it's Canada Day though, I had to do some kind of post. Chris Hadfield (the astronaut) and family have just made a cute video about life in Canada and uploaded it today, so here's an embed.

For me, today is going to be a good day spent with friends. I hope you all have a good day too. *hug*

NASA has had a long tradition of sending music into space to wake up the astronauts on the space station or in orbiting issions, and usually they hold a contest to select what they transmit.

Well, the new Space Station commander, Chris Hadfield (he's Canadian *grin*) managed to wangle permission to take his guitar to the space station, and has written and performed and recorded an original (Christmassy) song aboard the space station.

It might be the first song recorded on the space station, or even the first song recorded in space, so yeah. And it's not bad, considering he's just an astronaut, not a professional musician. ;-D

YouTube embed and Soundcloud widget under cut )

He tweets too, @Cmdr_Hadfield, for those who do the Twitter thing.

BBC Canada might be starting to air Series 2 of Sherlock starting on February 2nd, rather than having to wait until the US airing on PBS in May to watch it. At least that's what the awkward to navigate schedule on their website implies.

It's not a station I get (yet, but if this is true, I may go for it on principle alone), but I thought I would pass the possible word, just in case it's true.
