I've got 12 hours to pack up things and clean/wash/launder things so I can pack them and I'm at the "stare at thing I need to do and think of 15 other things I need to do first and end up not doing anything useful". In 12 hours I have to be loading all my crap on the truck. And sometime in there I should sleep some. I guess. AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!

On the up side, the internet is supposed to be getting hooked up right after I move, or possibly during if the Tech shows up when he's said he might.

ETA: it's 4AM. I need to get some sleep.
list of things I need to do by noon PDT )

It'll all get done because it has to. But it will require some loud music and inadvisable amounts of caffeine.

Right, so, I am moving in a week and am just realizing exactly how much crap I have to do yet, plus the regular weekly survival crap. Hence, list.

I've always said I'd stick with Livejournal until it dies, but the limit has now been reached. So, unfortunately, over the next long while I will be transferring my primary journal activities to my Dreamwidth fractured mirror.

You're all welcome to follow me on there, but I won't be friending back (or whatever they call it) for a long while until I can figure out how to reinstate the filters on some filtered posts. Right now everything is far too exposed over there. This will be a very rocky process.

I'm also looking for:
-Clear simple instructions on how to download and backup the stuff I have in Livejournal's Scrapbook, along with its folder structuring.
-An image hosting service that's cheap/free and reliable and offers at least 2gb of space.
-Places on Dreamwidth to find fandom communities there.

I'm sure more things will crop up as this process gets underway.

If I manage to write anything during this period, it will be posted to my AO3 account I do have a semi-active tumblr that I'm currently reblogging a lot of Merlin and random things on, and very rarely posting anything myself.

So, some dork pulled the fire alarm in the apartment I live in, and not seeing or smelling any overt signs of fire, this is what I grabbed. )

The high point of this week was apparently me clogging the office toilet this morning and needing to call the building strata for a plumber. This is because according to the Roto-Rooter guy, having him in today about the clog (which turns out not to actually be my fault) means that I didn't walk into the office on Monday to find the floor three inches deep in raw sewage. The area is prone to developing horrible sewer issues because (and this is a direct quote from a certified plumbing professional), "The sewer system in this block doesn't have nearly enough gravity."

Okay then. Good to know. (I know what he meant by that really, it just seemed an amusing way to put it)

The rest of the week was even more unspeakable, and it shall not be spoken of.

I'm off (sort of) adventuring tomorrow, yay. I still haven't watched through the Sherlock Special. I had a schedule and plans, but then Work happened everywhere and nope. Blah. So I'm still avoiding most of the internet. Hope you are all doing well.

One of the 'beer and pretzels' shows I watch is Scorpion. It's fun, mindless, includes bad science and geeky characters and team-based MacGyverism, but doesn't have much in the way of fandom that I know of. I mainly watch it to just let my head coast for an hour. It had a quote tonight I wanted to icon though.

My computer died on September 10th. My salvaged backup computer died on September 12th. I've been mostly offline since then except via my phone, but I have finally gotten a used computer that is (*knocks wood intently*) stable, so I'm back! Ish. I'm still desperately looking for work and dealing with a lot of RL stuff so it will still be pretty quiet around here.

Anyway, to celebrate being back online at home and having a real keyboard and trackpad again, have a Supernatural character sorting meme (ETA: yanked from [livejournal.com profile] bubblesbrnaid (No spoilers, though there are names I don't recognize, but I'm not thinking too hard about those. If they are awesome new characters in S9, 10 or 11 and way down low, please don't be offended; I didn't recognize them so I was hitting 'no opinion' a lot. XD)

Well, if there was ever any doubt I'm a Dean girl... (So sorry Sam, I don't really know how that happened... O.o)

Speaking of Supernatural, I know tonight is the Season 11 premiere. I... still haven't had a chance to watch past 9.06. /o\ Life and technology and mental focus and all that conspiring to make it difficult with the way I watch the show. Arg. I'll get to it when things stabilize. Meanwhile, try to avoid dropping major plot developments past that point in comments here if you can. :-)

Arrrrrrrr!

Happy talk like a pirate day to one and all.

(I might've linked that fan-produced video before but the production value is so amazing it's worth linking again)

At the moment I have no computer. I am posting this from my phone by laboriously typing it on a keyboard the size of the stick of chewing gum, alternating with some hilarious attempts to use voice recognition. My computer is in the shop and the best I can probably hope for is data recovery; it's fairly toast. Since I am out of work and broke, this will make things ...interesting for a while. :-P

I usually post a list of TV show premieres I'm watching this premiere season, but the list I put together is on my currently inaccessible hard drive. If I can piece together a list (since my hard drive is very literally a large part of my memory these days, I've forgotten what most of the new shows that I'm planning to watch are) I may yet post a list of premiere dates and times. The first though is Doctor Who tonight! Sometime! \o/

It's going to be tricky for me to get online for a while and even trickier to do any writing until I can afford to replace the computer. I am steadfastly not thinking about the possibility the data can't be recovered. I do have backups, though they aren't 100% current and I can't access them except on a Mac I'd be recovering the backup files to. I'd estimate that in that is over a million words of fiction, fanfic and otherwise. I'm realizing during this lack of computer that I have a need to type things at a keyboard to get my thoughts together about anything at all. So there's another challenge along with looking for work that I'm trying to accomplish on my phone. Bleh.

Anyway, there's an update.

Hope you're all doing well and if your timbers are shivering that it is in a pleasant way. ;-)

Want to know what the Mac equivalent of a Blue Screen of Death looks like?

This problem has the ever-so-reassuring name of "Kernel Panic", which can be as simple as there's some recent software or widget that's conflicting or some scrambled data on the hard drive and it's just a matter of knowing how to fix it, or as non-simple as a massive hardware failure and the computer is terminal or on it's way there. It did this on startup twice after passing POST and loading for a while. It did start up on a third try after a long rest and some breathing exercises, and I am now backing up the hard drive through the built in backup program, and might also just make a direct copy because I'm having my own Kernel Panic now. :-p

I have no idea what's causing this or how to fix it. The computer's been a bit wonky for a while, particularly with the browser crashing a lot, and it was running with less than 10% of it's tiny hard drive left for a good while before I archived a bunch of files but that was earlier this week. It tends to super-heat when playing videos on YouTube. It was the first startup of the day for it this happened on, though, so it wasn't overheating.

It's kind of a major part of my life, (probably more even than my car, which had a major brake failure and has been parked since the 10th and is another thing I need to fix or replace and have no money for anytime soon) and it's really necessary among many other things, for job-searching. It is a laptop from 2008 using OS 10.5.8 so that's about 90 in computer years. The OS is too old to let me upgrade my browser enough to access Google Docs. It's entirely reasonable that it's having problems of some kind, but being able to afford to fix or replace it is not something that's going to happen in the immediate or predictably near future, considering the rest of the series of calamities my life has been lately. :-p

What I do have is the 4 pages of error log it gave me printed out, and a hope that this is something I can stabilize myself somehow.

If anyone knows technical things about Macs running OS 10.5.8 and can tell me either what I can do about this to figure out the cause and make it not happen again, or where to start looking for information on how to do that, please let me know? I'm going to go hit Google while things are backing up here and hope.

I've got a really annoying moving-related road trip to make today. Since I have zero cash, I have (without intending to) managed to pack myself the same bag lunch I had in grade 2 (minus the semi-frozen Super Socco drink box): Peanut butter and Jam sandwich and a banana. In the process I have rediscovered some

technical tweaks to my peanut butter and jam sandwich construction methods, made in response to sandwich construction issues as they arose.

-If you use bread so rarely that you keep the loaf in the freezer to toast a slice at a time as needed, thaw the bread first.

-No, not toast. Thaw.

-Both sides of the bread.

-Let bread cool down and hope it doesn't dry into croutons.

-Spread the sticky things on the crustier side of each slice.

-There is definitely such a thing as 'too much peanut butter'.

-Spread TO the edges of the crust, not ON the edges of the crust.

-Use a little margarine on the jam side to keep the jam from soaking the bread to mush.

-Bread should not melt the margarine at this stage.

-Get real jam next time. (Whose bright idea was it to take something the consistency of half-set Jello, put mushed fruit in it and sell it as jam? They are evil.)

-The sticky sides go together, not sticky-side to dry-side (unless making a PB and J club sandwich, which doesn't pack well and uses too much bread for me. Also the cut banana in it would go weird too fast).

-Stick it in the fridge to firm up all the half-melted stuff spread on not-quite-cool bread before trying to cut it to fit in a sandwich bag.

Anyway. I'm off to do annoying adult things with my grade 2 dinner now. Blah. I miss Super Socco.
