caffienekitty: (flashlightfu - examination)

I found this fascinating. I'd heard of most of these things before but not really how some of them worked. Good reference for writing or roleplaying things involving historical ocean travel.

I've signed up for [livejournal.com profile] mini_wrimo again this year (and I see some of you already have as well!) It runs during the month of November like NaNoWriMo, but rather than committing to write at least 50,000 words in a month, MiniWriMo has less intense daily goals with a minimum of 100 words. Further info here. Challenge and sign up posts are locked, so you need to join the comm to sign up and participate. It's a good challenge for any sort of writer, fandom or otherwise and I recommend it to all.

All the fic I've written under this identity is now available on Archive of Our Own.

If you visit my stuff at AO3 and can't find something I've written, let me know and I'll figure out what I did wrong. If you know the AO3 tagging system and have tag suggestions, please let me know too since I have no idea what I'm doing with the tags.

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] tolakasa: Post your first lines from your last 21 fics.

Under cut, with links for the morbidly curious. )

...for Sherlock Series 2 to start airing in the UK, and obviously neither of the post-series one finale fics I have been working on here and there are going to get posted before then, so here's a little outline/summary of what each would have been, since they likely won't be posted at all now.

Contains outlines of stories that will never be posted and heavy speculation )

Title: Write or Die, Moriarty Mode.
Fandom: Sherlock (BBC)
Rating/Warnings: PG-13. Contrived scenario, bomb, typing, tension, a few rude words, overall a bit silly.
Word Count: 1800-ish
Disclaimer: I claim no ownership of the world or characters, or the online writing tool that inspired this nonsense.
Summary: One of John Watson's less vaunted skills becomes necessary to stop a bomb from exploding.
A/N: Well, after nearly three months of dead flat nothing, it's not much, but it's a fic. Posted without Britpick or beta, may edit later. And I would be very shocked if some variation on this scenario had not been done before in some fandom or other. :-P

We'd be less likely to die if you typed with more than two fingers, John. )

Found this article the other day and thought there are a few people out there who would find it interesting.

Ladies, Don't Let Anyone Tell You You're Not Awesome

Basically, it's a commentary of sorts on the portrayal of self-perception in fictional female characters and a bit about what that says about western society.

Something else, since this is already an odd sort of rec post:

As some of you know, my work schedule at this time of year, the last two weeks of April in particular (Canadian tax season goes later than U.S. and parts of it stretch on until June) is insane. In fact, today is the last day I won't be at work (for a period of 10 or more hours each day) until about May 8th, at which point I go back to getting one day away from work per week, yay, and all the backlogged other work stuff that's been put off due to tax season comes thundering down on my head.

What this means for the fun parts of my life is, well, I have none. Or at least very few.

How this will affect the posts I make or don't make over the next few weeks, if anyone's interested. )

In short, for the next while, this LJ will be mostly boring and whiny. I hope you all stick around for when I get small portions of my life back in May and can hopefully be interesting again.

*crossing fingers* for a SPN 6.17 reaction post today,(ETA: It's up!) and in the meanwhile *hugs* for everyone.

I have a nifty book called "The Complete Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook". I realized while looking something up tonight that most of it makes for great fic prompts. So, if anyone wants an entirely random prompt that ranges from mortal danger to extreme crack, here's what to do:

Comment with a number (or a few (Maximum of five) numbers if you want options) between 24 and 507, and I'll let you know what the subject of that page is. Or if you have access to a copy, look it up yourself. What you do with what you get is entirely up to you.

Any takers?

I just sent in my Summergen story! \o/

[livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen is scheduled to begin posting stories anonymously starting August 7th, and running through the month, I believe. No idea when in there mine will post, but see if you can guess which one mine is (certain people will already know)

If you like Gen fic, watch the comm, there's going to be loads of every type and variety!
