Progress Report of sorts

Okay, so it's October 1st, what am I doing?

Attempting to marathon Supernatural Season 2 from CSPWDT onward before 9PM Thursday despite working approx 9 hours a day, taping Chuck and Heroes tonight while simultaneously attempting to write part 2 of the Supernatural/Doctor Who crossover WIP I have going.

The main hang up on the WIP? Trying to get the Doctor and Martha to stop being such backseat writers, agree to their part in the plot-line and settle into the good little plot devices secondary characters I want them to be.

See, I've never written anything in the Doctor Who universe previously and I'm discovering something I never knew before.

The Doctor is a pushy bitch.


CaffieneKitty: *is writing* "So, you see this, and have all this information, so you go do that."

Tenth Doctor: "Wait, why am I doing that exactly?"

CK: "Hunh? Because that's what I need you to do."

10Doc: "Yeah, that's nice, but it makes no sense. If I know all this, why don't I go straight here, do that and solve the problem?"

CK: "Umm... because... er... that skips about five chapters and leaves the main characters looking like twits."

Martha (butting in): "Hang on, we aren't the main characters?"

CK: "Well, no."

M: "Ooo, I don't like the sound of that, Doctor. Sounds like we're just being used as a plot device."

10Doc: *leveling stare* "Is that true?"

CK: "Well, um... Heh. Look, it's a crossover, see. You're important, you just... aren't the main focus of the story."

10Doc: "I see."

M: *harumphs bitchily*

CK: "Oh come on, be reasonable."

10Doc: "Oh, I'm willing to be reasonable-"

M: "I'm bloody well not!"

10Doc: "Hush Martha. As I say, I'm willing to be reasonable. However, I'm not willing to be stupid, just so your main characters can look good."

CK: "No! No, I'm not asking you to be stupid! That's not it at all!"

M: *muttering* "Looks like it from where I'm sitting."

CK: "I just need you to see this, do this, this, this and that, while Sam and Dean are over here in the main story line doing a whole bunch of other things and it'll all work out fine."

10Doc: "Yeah, but why? If I-"

M: "Ahem."

10Doc: "Sorry, if we already know this and can see that happening, why don't we go here, do this, and be done with it."

CK: "Because you can't do that."

10Doc: "Why not?"

CK: "Uhhh.... because of this!"

M: "Pft!"

10Doc: "Now that's just silly."

CK: "But it's what's happening!"

10Doc: "Doesn't make it less silly. I wouldn't be able to take that as a serious threat at all."

CK: "What if I put it like this? And it's causing this?"

10Doc: "Ah, that's better. But what about this? Why can't we do this this way?"

CK: *facepalm* "Because that's not the way that has to go!"

10Doc: "But if we had all that data, we'd be able to figure this out over tea and biscuits and fix it. Otherwise I, or rather we, look like idiots."

CK: "Alright, fine. How about if you don't know this and this?"

10Doc: "Know what?"

M: "Sorry?"

CK: "Never mind, you don't know it anymore. Still feel like you'd be an idiot for not figuring it out right away from what you've got now?"

10Doc: "Hmm. Yes, considering I can do this and have this happen."

CK: "Arg. Right. Alright, how about if I leave you in the dark about this entire bit, have this happen and add this?" *giant convoluted plot-related hairball lands with a splat*

M: "What the hell is that?"

10Doc: "Well it's got Martha flummoxed, that's a start."

M: "I am not flummoxed! It's just... really, how does that even work?"

CK: "Too complex?"

10Doc: "Well, I can see how it works, in a way, but it's not really all that rational."

CK: "IT ISN'T MEANT TO BE RATIONAL! THIS IS CRACK-FIC!"

10Doc: "Oh! Well! You should have said at the start!"

CK: *resists urge to throttle Doctor*

10Doc: "Still, it's lacking a certain internal logic and consistency..."

M: "Yeah, and we still look a bit stupid about this other bit here...."

CK: *beats head against desk and weeps*

See? So anyway, yeah. Still intending to meet the October 4th deadline that I've set myself for Part 2, if I can get the Doctor and Martha to settle down and cooperate. :-P
