SPN Reaction: Episode 3.03 - Detailed spoilers for that episode
OMFG YAY!!!!
I have no coherence, coherence has gone byebye. I think I freaking injured myself flailing so hard! So, uh, since I have no coherence, I'm just gonna go through the ep and make random statements and flail some more, okay? Okay.
-GORDON!!!! Still a nutbag! Yay!
-OMG Sam told Dean about the demon chick, but not about the whole 'everyone mom knew is dead' thing I don't think, but still that's like a major OMG! Sam told Dean about her!!! And she finally has a name! Ruby.
-Kubrick is a FREAK!!! Who is that actor and where have I seen him before, it's driving me nuts! And did he say "St. Helen's big" referring to the volcanic eruption or "St. Helena's big" referring to some unknown other big thing?
-The cigar box in the glove compartment!!! The cigar box in the glove compartment!!! PROP CONTINUITY FROM THE FIRST FREAKING EPISODE FTW!!! *flails!*
-JOHN'S FRIGGING STORAGE UNIT!!! *flails again!*
-"Don't play with my Jesus." Hee!
-Warthog skull!! With a gun! That looks effectively strapped in with metal strapping!
-Trivia Point: In 1995, Sam's team made Division Championship in soccer. He'd have been 11 or 12. John kept the trophy! In a lockup with weapons and cursed items and a freaking coffin but... OOO! *kicking away a wave of evil evil nasty plotbunnies*
-Other Trivia Point: Dean made his first sawed-off shotgun in grade six! Which I can believe.
-Third trivia point: John's storage unit is freaking HUGE Seriously, I paid fifty bucks a month for a glorified closet once, that thing's MASSIVE! Either he did a huge favour for someone who owned the place once (maybe it used to be a haunted storage unit??) or he pre-paid some serious coin on that thing. I've lived in smaller apartments! :-D I really hope it returns, or at the very least the boys restock from there or something because I want to poke around in there! I want a Flash version of that storage unit to play with! :-D
-Who is Grossman and why does he look so familiar. Did he play Evan in "Crossroad Blues"? No... Where is he from? Arg.
-Grossman and the guy that got skewered with a roasting fork \o/ whose name I missed could totally have a little prequel spin-off about being the bagmen for a relic hunter. I liked their little dynamic.
-Upsidedown horseshoe over the Grossman/other guy apartment door!!! No wonder he bit it so fast after he lost the foot! Hee! I love the set design people on this show!!!
-BOBBY!!! YAY BOBBY!!! Never ever go away!
-Biggerson's website has the fastest Webmaster and propogation rate, like, ever. I've uploded site changes that take a couple days to clear. Unless it's the restaurant's blog, which seems a bit odd, but *shrug* Meh. It's the foot! Blame it on the foot!
-Hey, the boys still have that free food for a year thing, right? Are we going to see a recurring Biggerson's set, since they probably look the same all over the country? Ooo! And that Rolex! That'll keep them fed and gassed up for a while! :-D
-I love every single one of Sam's pratfalls. All of them.
-Dean's first "You're a thief, not a killer" speech!!!!! O. M. G. Seriously!!! Wow!
-Sam! Gum! Shoe! All of Sam's little bits behind Dean's phone conversation!
-Bobby called Dean "Ijit" *Flails again some more!*
-"I lost my shoe." Sam's face OMG Sam's face! Hee!
-Dean facing off with Bela with the guns and the verbal sparring type stuff! YAY!! And Dean snuck in behind her! \o/
-Amusing thing I just discovered looking up the actress playing Bela, she graduated from Winchester University in the UK. HA!! It's like fate or something. :-D
-Sam in the hotel with the air conditioner!!!!
-I love that Supernatural has toughened up Padalecki! There's a clip out there somewhere of him being all freaky about being sprayed with hot wax for "House of Wax" aaaages ago. Now? Wax, schmax! We set him on fire, dudes! Woohooo!! \o/
-I... I think I like Bela.... Seriously. If she comes back, I wouldn't mind. I suspect she'll be coming back. I'm also highly curious about her buyer...
-Yay for marginally more effective depiction of restraint than has been seen previously on this show! Though seriously, you need to actually go around more of the torso than that... What? Oh nothing! DUCT TAPE FTW! \o/
-"Anyhoo!" Dean with the foot in Bela's place! "Seeya!" Bwee!
-"I'm on a mission from God." Blues Brothers line, wasn't that? I kept expecting Kubrick's little shadow (another name I missed) to be a demon, judging solely from some of the cutting back and forth during the interrogation of Sam. I think we'll be seeing these guys again, maybe heading a Sam-focussed lynch mob with Gordon, nu? I would like to note that I hope a person of religion is seen somewhere in a positive light this season to balance out this nutbar. He doesn't bother me, but I can see how some people might be bothered.
-THE PEN!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Oh, oh my. I think that was where I sustained a flail-related injury! No, wait, it was-
-"I'M BATMAN!!!!" *glee!* Not enough win in the freaking world!
-Given that this show started out on the WB, I would have been very dissapointed if they hadn't worked in a Bugs Bunny ref. *nods*
-I love that for Dean's second "You're a thief, not a killer" speech, Ackles cheeses it up like crazy, so that when Bela shoots Sam, it's that much more of a 'Okay, done playing games now thanks' moment. Eee!
-"Wow. I really don't feel bad about that." "Nope." Hee!
-So very unsurprised at the pocket picking, but I am quite thrilled the actress actually showed a little bit of finger wiggle at the start. Hee. Bela reminds me of, okay, this'll be obscure, that reporter-thief chick from an anime called "Lupin III" Anyone? Just me? 'kay. I really think I like her...
-You know you're insane when Gordon does the 'nod and smile' thing at you. Kubrick is a lunatic, and Gordon thinks so too! Gordon's so gonna break out of jail! I am so glad I don't have to work tomorrow because I may be up all night squeeing my brains out!!!
-This ep was awesome, in that is was a fun, whacky, cracky ride, but within the confines of a reasonable plot which required whacky and cracky, and added elements to advance the larger storyline several ways.
In conclusion:
-OMG YAY!!! *glomphs show*

The actor who played Kubrick had a semi-major role on the first season of "24". He was the person who was holding Jack Bauer's wife and daughter hostage. Maybe that's where you remember him from?

I have to watch it again. And again. And again! To pick up all the little details I missed. Last night my poor brain kept thinking, "So much NEW to take in! Overloading on the NEW!"
I'm a lifelong Batman freak. The "I'm Batman" (using Michael Keaton's intonation) made me squee my face off. And the Rolex! And...gah, just TOO much funny. I am in funny overload. Bob Singer, you ROCK.
And brave you, for squeeing in the TWoP thread. I can't even go there. Those people want SPN to be something from PBS/HBO/Merchant Ivory. And It's. Just. NOT. They make me want to bitchslap them for their refusal to even squint at reality.

I am one of the ones wondering why the religious guy had to be a freak but I can deal too. I want a guy like the priest from Houses of the Holy again, the one that did the blessing, not the murderer guy of course. LOL
And Bella, I liked her alright, she wins points for having a cat that I want to go and steal.
And all the comedic moments, Sam regressing to 5 year old status was just adorable overload. My Lord, could he be any cuter?
And Dean's reactions to him. I finally really FEEL the brother-love again. Yays! \o/
I want to icon stuff like crazy but I have crap to do all day and I know someothers will be kicking ass in that department. Can't wait to see what they come up with. :)
SQUEEEE!!!!!!

I had same thought when they lit Jared on fire. Brave boy!
no subject
Ohhh! That guy! Okay, yeah, that was probably it. He does good psycho.

I went in the TWoP thread and blurred past any post that started out negatively, and still wanted to shout at people. I went there because I know through second hand reports there's a preponderance of negative posters in the episode threads lately and I wanted to make sure there was a significant quantity of audible appreciation.
And seriously, I don't have a clue what show half those people are watching, because it's not the show I saw.
no subject
I can handle him because I think they did a good job of making it clear this guy is off his rails, and not meant to be a generalization in any way.
And Bella, I liked her alright, she wins points for having a cat that I want to go and steal.
OMG that cat! Perfect
evilmorally grey henchcat. I'm totally fighting off a cracky little plot-bunny because I'm on deadline already. My Lord, could he be any cuter?
Hee! I love Jared for taking the "I lost my shoe" line the way he did, because seriously, I'd be reverting to five-year-old too if every single thing I did messed up. That was just a fed up, had it, no point in getting angry because it's not going to do any good, abject misery. That was awesome. *pats Sam*
And Dean's reactions to him. I finally really FEEL the brother-love again. Yays! \o/
They were very truly brothers in this episode and it was awesome! And then Dean going suddenly dead serious in the graveyard after she shot Sam! And everything! *flappy hands*
I was up til 5 AM because I was too jazzed by the episode to sleep! Now of course I have to go out and interact with the dumb old real world, but I shall carry an armor of squee with me thrughout the day!

Arg! I want to watch it again now but I have to go do annoying responsible things! Arg!

And re: TWoP – I, um, kinda like reading all the widely diverse opinions. Even the ones I pretty vehemently disagree with. **runs and hides in case of evil glares** ;-D

I love this episode!

Hee! My cellphone just went off (I'm at the library *facepalm*) and the girl next to me said 'Back in Black' was an awesome ringtone. I'm now dithering about asking whether she watches the series...
Re:TWoP, nobody's gonna glare evilly at you here, no worries. I don't mind the differing opinions, it's just when people are inflexible about considering other viewpoint in favor of running the show down for not being what it isn't that bugs me, I guess? About halfway through last year I figured out that if I didn't codify my reaction to an episode before poking my head into the episode thread, I would end up not liking the episode as much as I initially did on viewing. But I'm a pessimistic person by nature, so I'm easily swayed to the dark side by repeated negative viewpoints. I dunno, I guess. *shrug* :-)

I love this episode so very very much!!! My neighbours probably think I'm nuts, because I literally applauded out loud at one point, I can't remember which point now, but I was like "Why am I clapping? The TV can't hear me... Oh screw it, I don't care, that was freaking awesome! *keeps clapping*"
no subject
Re: TWoP - Oh, I hear ya on the inflexible repeating (and repeating, and repeating...) and that's why there are certain posts I will only skim, if that. But I, ah... tend to be kinda, um... opinionated? :-D So they don't sway me if it's not something I already felt and I can just shake my head and wonder what the hell show they are watching.

I also am a crazy, crazy spoilerphobe to the point that not only am I not watching the 'coming next week' or any commercials, or titles, or schedule listings, or anything, I may start not watching the previouslies. (two minute warning on Library puter, arg) So for me going into any thread at TWoP is like braving a mine field. :-D

The BF, who normally sits quietly through espisodes and tends not to discuss them much after, just had to say after Gordon's nod and "okay" - you know you have to be nuts if you spooked Gordon.
no subject
Yeah, and with TWoP's spoiler policy there is pretty much no thread that is really safe for you.
*nodnod* *makes sad!Sammy 'I lost my shoe' face*
And I definitely think there are people that read spoilers that really probably shouldn't.
Oh, yes. I am in 100% agreement with you there. *nods again*

Also loving that the two true whack-jobs so far (Gordon and Kubrick) are entirely human. As far as we know.
no subject
Love that even DEAN is surprised the pen worked.
I just have to say it: "I lost my shoe." ROTFLMAO, Jared, you look like you're EIGHT. How do you do that?
Unfortunately, googlemaps failed Ben Edlund on this ep. Because Buffalo? Is Nowhere Near Queens. And the Biggerson's website says that they are actually all at Black Rock, which is where? Arkansas. Dude.
Also, little minor one: Sam loses his left shoe down the drain. (Splash! is my new favorite sound effect.) When Dean walks him into the motel room, he has both shoes on. Later when the camera pulls back to show him seated, he's wearing one shoe again...but it's the left shoe, and his right foot is shoeless. Um?
Anyway... I did think it telling that each of the boys' childhood trophies was so different from basically the same point in their lives: Sam would have been about 12 in 1995, playing soccer; Dean would have been about 12 in 6th grade, making sawed-off shotguns. Hm.
We so need to know more about what's in the storage locker....
Sadly, the IMDB listing for the episode doesn't include any of the guest stars. Michael Massee (or Massey) (the hunter with the Jesus fixation) was bugging me - he played Ira Gaines in the first season of 24 (another total badass).
no subject
Not all the time, but it'd be neat if they went back once or twice. And Henrickson seeing the website is totally a plot-seed.
Because Buffalo? Is Nowhere Near Queens.
Ya know, the more I think about it, the more I think that's a fan shout-out. Because I've seen on a couple fan forums the myriad geographical oddness being hand-waved with "In Supernatural, everywhere is two hours away from everywhere else." So the nearly seven hour drive from Buffalo to Queens? "About two hours" says Dean. Hee.
And the Biggerson's website says that they are actually all at Black Rock, which is where? Arkansas. Dude.
Ah, but that's the well-known Black Rock. There's a Black Rock in New York state next to a lake that seems to be called Cayuga? On the Google satellite it looks like it's 90% farmland, but there could easily be a storage facility there, for like, people's boat stuff for the lake. *nods*
Did they actually set up a website for Biggersons or is that from a screencap?
Sadly, the IMDB listing for the episode doesn't include any of the guest stars.
The guy that played Grossman, I forget his last name but I found out his first name is Hrothgar, which seriously, it'd be a hell of a name to grow up with but it's totally kick ass. His parents are either deeply Norse or deeply SCAdian. If you type Hrothgar into an IMDB search he pops right up, because he's apparently the only Hrothgar acting currently. I love typing that name. Hrothgar! :-D

Hmm... That was the episode with the past-life regression, right? That's pretty much all I remember for that one. The guy does do creepy fanatic antagonists well. *nods*
no subject
Funny... I grew up in Rochester, NY (which is between Buffalo and Cayuga Lake) and I've never HEARD of Black Rock. It's still at least 6 hours from Queens, even with Dean driving. But the fan shout-out, especially in an episode mostly about laughs, makes sense.
Hrothgar! It is fun to say. Like Gewurtztraminer.
no subject
*smacks Yahoo* Have you tried Gmail, through Google? I have yet to have any significant problems with it, and you don't need to get invited to set an account up anymore.
I've never HEARD of Black Rock
Black Rock NY appears to be a teeny little flyspeck east of the town of Cayuga Lake. It's pretty much just an intersection, by the look of it, but yeah, there could be a storage facility there, sure! :-D
And yeah. I figure that in the twenty odd years of criss-crossing the country, Dean's got a detailed map in his head of arrow-straight deserted backroads where it's possible to blast along at 120 miles an hour at any time of day. And an innate sense for speed-traps. *nods*

I'll have to watch for that the next time I watch Nightshifter :-)
