Snow!

Anybody who lives where you get loads of snow on a regular basis is quite welcome to holler 'wimp' in a loud and annoying voice.

The south coast of BC is getting an abnormal amount of snow today. Normal being none.


Pictures of my relatively sheltered deck today.

2:14 PM - 1.75 inches

3:19 PM - 3.5 inches

4:02 PM - 6 inches

This is supposed to continue through to late Sunday last I heard.

Now, why am I telling you all this? Because this is the weather currently occuring at sea level in roughly the same geographical area as Vancouver. Vancouver's a bit of a heat sink though, so it might not get hit as heavily. Also, and here's the whacky part, temperatures on Monday are supposed to go up to 14 Celcius / 57 Farenheit. So it's all going to melt on Monday, and hopefully it won't impede the already curtailed by the writer's strike Supernatural production schedule too much. But watch for incongruous and unexplained snow in Episode 12.

I love BC. :-)

Hee!! We're roughly in the same boat, but I don't think we'll get quite that much. Probably only 2 or 3 inches. And yeah, 56 here by Monday too. I made a tiny snowman on my deck. ;-D

And six inches isn't a lot of snow (but I grew up in Syracuse, so I'm possibly insane), but it's proper snow.

We got a little bit this morning (an inch or two) with lots more coming tomorrow night/Monday. We've been known to get 18-20 inches at a rip, now and then.

About snow on SPN - BWAH! I hope 3.12 doesn't take place in Florida.

I have no idea what combination of weather systems is accounting for that much of a temperature change in 24 hours, but it should make for an interesting sunday night. :-D

As it stands, the city's pretty much shut down by it here, because nobody knows what to do with this much snow, and it's still coming down. Snow plows have gotten stuck trying to clear the highway. :-P

It's kind of freakish in BC. We usually have warm wet winters where it never snows below 500 feet elevation, but there will be a cluster of years where we'll get 1-3 feet in a 48 hour period and it will shut the entire area down. It's not light fluffy snow, it's heavy, dense snow, and they usually don't have anything more than salt and sand trucks ready to go before mid December, so they're scrambling to figure out which end is up. I've heard reports of snowplows being stuck on the highway.

It's not bad weather, really, I've been out in weather like this in a t-shirt, shorts and flipflops, it's just they don't prepare well enough for it around here. I don't know a single person who has snow tires yet, even. :-D

This seems to be one of the freak years for snow again.

It'll be interesting to see when the episode airs. They did a pretty good job of hiding it during last years giant snow dump (you can see some in Tall Tales, I thing that was filmed right after the mega-dump last year), but there's a bit more of a time crunch this year. I wonder with the strike if they're allowed to ad-lib a line in to explain it, like the 'unseasonably cold' Missouri in Route 666?

Florida! All the effed up crap happens in Florida! It can totally have a freak snowstorm, 'coz that's effed up, right? :-D

*grins* If I was completely OCD, I'd have had a stopwatch and a micrometer, or one of those precipitation measuring things. Just a leeetle OCD. :-)

Time lapse would have been nifty if I could have been organized enough and had a tripod. It's still snowing and I can hardly see that hedge in the photos anymore, it's getting so covered. I'm kind of surprised we haven't lost power yet.

The only thing I don't like about snow is it impeding my ability to get around. Well, except when it lets me get a day off work. ;-)

I agree about the snow. Very pretty to look at, and I would way rather have a holiday season with snow than without. I can't get into the season with out it. But I'm still a college student, so I have to walk around in it all week. I have two pairs of snow boots, and I will be wearing them until April. lol *waves goodbye to my cute flats and heels*

Hehe, I know. I only really have one pair of shoes, and some leaky secondhand gumboots. I'm very much not a shoe girl by nature. I need boots though, I just never think to go boot-shopping until the snow's up past my shins. :-/ It's like a leak in the roof or winter tires. I forget about it til it's too late :-)

There's a lot of those around here. Normal conditions for this time of year here are about 2C to 10c and wet. No one's ready for snow at all, let along this much at once :-D

The people in the building who own the itty bitty two person Smart Car that they park out on the road had to move it into the parking lot before the plow got around to doing the road. I'm not sure exactly how they did it because the snow'd be nearly up to the window frame on the little door and I doubt the lot's been plowed yet either. I'm thinking they might have got some neighbours to help and just picked the little thing up and packed it into the lot by hand. It's a good thing it's red or I doubt they'd've even found it til the snow melted. :-D

*giggle* I've always thought that the weathr in Route 666 was a sign of some kind of nearby demon activity, too. This drabble was all that came out of a closely-related plot-bunny. It'd be awesome to see what you do with a demonic snowstorm in Florida! :-D

Yep, pineapple express sounds about right, now they're saying winds to 60 kph/37mph for tonight, up to 10c/50f and then a slow descent into cold for the next week.
