Torchwood Reactions: 2.01-2.03

And now for something completely different. No, I'm not jumping fandoms, I just happen to also watch Torchwood and have straightened out some of my technical difficulties and may post a few episode reaction posts now that I have up to 2.11. (Thank you if you're lurking. You know who you are and the wombats know where to find you. ;-D) Haven't watched them all yet, so PLEASE! NO SPOILERS!

TW2.01 - "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang"

I kind of cheated and watched this by other means beforehand by even dodgier means, but I couldn't hear half of what was going on. Anyway, headphones this time.

-Hee! Blowfish! I may need to shout 'Blowfish!' at people at random intervals. This will not go over well at work so I'd best get it out of my system as soon as possible.

-I also love how even old ladies who nearly get run down on the street at midnight by a blowfish (BLOWFISH!) know about Torchwood now. Nice job on the OpSec there, Gwen. Although the giant demon stomping around Cardiff would have been a tough one to handwave away. And the Romans and Black Death and so forth. Incidentally, what happened with that? Where's Billis Manger?

-Owen is a crazy, crazy man. And very much not James Bond.

-Yay for the use of 'minions' by the blowfish(BLOWFISH!)! Minions!

-Never noticed the whispery-voiced 'Torchwood' in the background of the title sequence before. Is that new this season or have I just never noticed it?

-The murderous time-traveling lunatic has a nice jacket. I think, anyways. I have no fashion sense. Also, needs a wash.

-I love how when Jack takes off to meet his (obvious) old flame/partner at the bar, everyone stands around whinging except Ianto who's already halfway down the block hailing a cab. Yay efficient Ianto! Also, aw, Ianto.

-I'm just gonna say 'Hee!' to the entire bar scene, m'kay?

-John Hart is awesome. He must return! (Don't tell me if he does though, 'coz dude! Spoiler!)

-Damn, on headphones the perpetual water noises when they're in Torchwood are exceptionally diuretic. :-P

-Ianto's eyerolling at Hart's little team pep-talk about splitting up to go after the canisters (bad idea) is so cute! I love the Jack/Ianto. I'd heard it was a lot more overt this season and was a little worried about how it would go, but it comes across as very genuine.

-Were those Star Trek logos on all the screens in that office??

-Jack asks Ianto out. Nawwwwwww. They're so cute.

-Determined, distressed, angry, frustrated Ianto off to save his friends is awesome.

-And we have a resolution to the blowfish (BLOWFISH!) on the wall, yay!

-Hee! I love the whole 'kill you after I'm dead by trapping you with your own greed' thing. Yay, dead girl.

-Stopwatch! \o/

-How exactly would cutting off Hart's hand activate the bomb? Did I miss something or was that a last minute toss-in explainer that never got explained?

-"Trust me, I'm an improviser!" Hee. Oh Owen. You aren't MacGyver either, dear. *patpat*

-I spent about a minute trying to figure out how that blood thing might have technically worked. I totally understand the concept but that was a very small amount of blood and... meh. I gave up after a bit because it's Torchwood and therefore carved out of solid crack, with extra added sex. Logic, schmogic. Whee!

-Grey. Betting now, sight and spoiler unseen, that Grey is the child the two of them had together while trapped in the time loop for 2 weeks/5 years, and the 'never doing that again' Jack was referring to in the first episode of season 1 when he was talking about estrogen in the rain. When they got out, she got left behind, grew up alone in the time-loop thing and is now insane and out to become empress of the universe. Or maybe not that last bit so much. In any case, DON'T TELL ME.

....Aaand since my ISP just went down for the next several hours for scheduled maintenance, I think I'll watch 2.02 and post these reaction in a batch later.

TW2.02 - Sleeper

-Hm... is it that kind of sleeper? Yay! It is that kind of sleeper!

-Where exactly was Owen going when he told Gwen she had to stay at the hospital when Jack implied both were to? Hmmm.... Owen's up to something...

-Aw. Mike and Beth. So cute. So very very doomed. Aw.

-"We don't sniff the sub-etheric resonator." Hee.

-Mind Probe! \o/ As in old school Who: "Oh no. Not the Mind Probe." Hee.

-"Nobody knows more than I do!" Aw, Ianto.

-Gwen's hair is awesome. Just had to say that.

-Hee. They put Beth in storage locker 007. Cute.

-"I know everything. And it says so at the bottom of the screen." Hee!

-Sooo... if dead guy knew everything about the emergency response system or whatever, with the codes and things... who's his backup? It can't have just been one guy. And what does activating the guy's backup do in terms of the plan. Arg. I want to take over Tosh's computer for a minute, okay?

-Owen's solution to imminent unstoppable death? Orgy. Or at least threesome.

-Loving the Ianto snark this season so far!

-I thought that Beth going with them to the base was her mission. See, all the other guys get the base defenseless, while Beth has made contact with and made an emotional connection to members of Torchwood who bring her with them onto the base so she can carry out her final part in the plan, and all the being able to control the thing and stay human stuff was part of the Sleeper agent plan. HOWEVER, a second thought springs to mind in that she was to infiltrate Torchwood to gain access to the Rift, and maybe other buddy with the base infiltration was going to aim the nukes at Millennium Plaza, chucking the nukes into the rift which Beth would have been there to activate and crack the planet apart Forward and backward through time. Or some entirely different planet and the Earth is just being used as a launch point for an attack on something that can only be reached through the rift. But maybe I think too much about these things.

-Beth was in a vague 'hanged man' position. Hmm. I'd see if that had any vague implications for anything that they might be inferring there if my freaking ISP wasn't doing bloody maintenance all night. (It's up. Still not sure how or if any of that applies.)

-Also, now that their 'Sleeper cell' has been killed off, what is the alien culture that sent them going to do in response...?

I hope I'm not boring anyone with this.

One more, then sleep.

TW2.03 - To the Last Man

Oh...

Just oh...

-1918 Torchwood is awesome. I love the tech!

-I have never been more creeped out by a guy on crutches in my life.

-I'm vaguely weirded out by the Owen/Tosh vibe... not sure why yet.

-Yay for cross-series special effect continuity in having the time lock and the rift key emit similar looking energy to the TARDIS.

-Raise your hand if you are an absolute old school Who dork and shouted "Watch out for the Blinovitch Limitation Effect!" when the two Tommy's were in the same room briefly. *raises hand* Heh.

-Rift key is super nifty! I want one to fiddle with.

-Saving the world in his PJ's is he? He's got good company in that.

And beyond that, all I can say is oh...

Favorite episode so far, I think.

Sleep now.
