RANDOM FANDOM: Uh.... Dr Horrible Meta?? Or Theory??

So some of you have probably heard of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog by now.

Ya know, I never really got into the whole Joss Whedon thing. I still haven't watched the Firefly DVD's I own, and I've seen exactly one episode of Buffy, the finale. Nothing against him or his stuff, just never peen a priority. But YAY DR. HORRIBLE! I've even bought the first part off iTunes, even though my current computer cannot play iTunes video smoothly (or at all really) because it's pre-millenial.

In my less lucid moments today, I wanted to make icons out of some quotes and references *points at icon* and I had the urge to write fic for it. Eeep. o.O However, I haven't really slept much in the past few days so that might explain that lack of lucidity.

No, I'm not going to be writing any Dr. Horrible fic. I have way too many things on the go already.

Anyway, I have a theory! Which will be laughably wrong, just wait.

(Theory contains Spoilers for part 1 and 2 of Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, but seriously, just go watch it)

Hee! I just have to say, OMG the pie metaphor in ACT 2! I laughed so hard I missed the next two lines. :-D

So, the theory.

I suspect Penny of secretly being evil, because she knows who Bad Horse is. A very thin thread to base a theory on, but whatever.

I think she's another applicant to the Evil League of Evil, and all this do-goodery stuff has been a ploy to get into Captain Hammer's lair and/or kill him and/or steal his stuff. And then she and Dr. Horrible are going to go off, live evilly (in a nice way) ever after and have several Horrible children. *nods like she's perfectly sane*

Or hey! Maybe she actually is Bad Horse! Oooo...

But all will be disproven when part 3 is up, I'm sure.

So yeah, I think Dr. Horrible is good stuff, go watch it for free (legally! O.O) while you can!

I streamed it and giggled! Love Nathan when he comes in as Captain Hammer! ZOMG! :D

Joss has been Mr Awesome to me for a while, and Dr Horrible just confirms it! :D I keep having flashbacks to scenes from it - one of the most priceless things are the messages from Bad Horse. *glues on a moustache and sings*

I was doing a search for Dr. Horrible fic on Google, and it popped up with this LJ entry.

So... hi! *waves in a friendly sort of fashion*

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Penny were evil. I so wouldn't.

Yeah, I saw the itunes links and there are *cough* less legal links floating around. Don't know that I love it that much though. I'll definitely be streaming ep 3 to see who get the girl. :)

It's such a clever device! :D

The music is great - really catchy, and it all works so beautifully. I've been surprised by how well Harris can sing as well, he's really working it.

Ooh, you should try out Buffy and especially Firefly. They are oodles of awesome. *massive Joss love* And I'm quite a recent convert too, only a bit more than a year of Joss fangirlery. :)

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's why I buy DVDs. I'm a boxset freak! :)

[identity profile] teithiwr.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Firefly is certainly something that should be watched with care, because it totally is that cool. I hope you get time to watch it at some point!

I did notice the news that through fan action, a set of Firefly DVDs had been taken up onto the Space Station for the astronauts to watch, and thought that was amazingly cool. :-) Wow, that's amazingly cool! *glee*

Joss is a big fan of throwing people for a curve... So Penny turning out to be massively evil could actually happen!

*She's spending the night with Captain Hammer... and these are not the hammer!*

Have you checked out the comic strip? awesome!

Whatever the real ending is, I think Penny being evil may become my personal ending. It works so well and would be very Joss-like. (Just watch, he'll know that fans expect that because it's unexpected and hook her up with Captain Hammer just to spite us.)

Also, I think there are possibilities for extending the pie metaphor to Supernatural. For instance, maybe that would be all it takes for Dean to convince Henrickson of his (relative) innocence. Buy the guy some pie and then proceed to explain the significance of each layer. "You see, some people are blueberries, and some are apples, and some are rhubarb. Me, I'm a banana. Gets this bad rap for pretty innocent things like tripping people, but is really great in a pie."

Dangit, you're giving me plot bunnies. XD

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Read your meta and agree with it. I wonder if anyone else has drawn that parallel?

I was strapped for pie fruit, okay? Sorry. Now that I've had a bit more time to think, I think Dean's an apple. Crunchy, juicy, has to sliced when put into pie, and has erotic and demonic connotations. Maybe one of those hard woody tasting ones like a cox orange, that don't sound appealing till you try…. Additionally, apple pies tend to be rather gooey in the middle as well.

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
I think the hard-core Whedon fans have likely been dissecting the parallels for a while now.

I suppose this is true, or at least a valid assumption. Like you, I'm not heavily into the Whedonverse, though Firefly's grown on me and I like Buffy fic.

Dean is totally and absolutely an upside down banana cream pie!

Okay, I'll go with that, but then we have to explain why he's upside down. Inverted morals? Unique approach to legality? Dropped on his head too many times as a baby? It can't be whumpage since that seems to be largely reserved for Sam….

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Perfect! (Oh, and I think some of his banana layer comes through in the form of prank wars where it's oozed up through the crust.)

I think I've met right-side-up banana cream pie people too. Some of my former bosses, for instance. Most certainly nasty (much, I find, like right-side-up banana cream pie; will have to try it upside-down sometime).

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It'd be messy, but you'd get the crust out of the way first and just have the sweet filling left, so it might be worth it. :-)

It might be indeed. Sadly, I don't think I know of anywhere around here that sells pies (except Save-On and Safeway, and they don't do slices). I'm certainly not talented enough to make one myself. Still, if I find an individual slice, I'll try it.

I don't think I'm going to look at a banana cream pie the same way again after this conversation :-D

Me neither.

(edited because after all that, I misspelled 'banana' :-P)

But it's fun to misspell bananana, banna, bananan, banana. XD 'Banana' now strikes me as a very silly word….

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think Timmies does banana cream, though. They tend to have themed desserts and pies—think they're on a maple kick right now. And afaik, standard restaurants like Earl's and Milestones have posher types of desserts like tiramisu or crème brulée. I'd have to find an actual diner…. (No, my life doesn't revolve around my sweet tooth. Really.)

Wow, just realized, it's incredibly hard for anyone to find banana cream pie these days, isn't it?

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. Maybe I need to finder a larger Timmies then. White Spot doesn't have it anymore, or at least they didn't two weeks ago.

Hmm. That's doable too, I suppose.

so I was just looking at the cover picture as provided by iTunes today and I think you may have something there - Penny is on the evil side with Moist & the Bad Horse singers rather than on the side with Cap'n Hammer & his fans.... :D
