RANDOM FANDOM: Uh.... Dr Horrible Meta?? Or Theory??
So some of you have probably heard of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog by now.
Ya know, I never really got into the whole Joss Whedon thing. I still haven't watched the Firefly DVD's I own, and I've seen exactly one episode of Buffy, the finale. Nothing against him or his stuff, just never peen a priority. But YAY DR. HORRIBLE! I've even bought the first part off iTunes, even though my current computer cannot play iTunes video smoothly (or at all really) because it's pre-millenial.
In my less lucid moments today, I wanted to make icons out of some quotes and references *points at icon* and I had the urge to write fic for it. Eeep. o.O However, I haven't really slept much in the past few days so that might explain that lack of lucidity.
No, I'm not going to be writing any Dr. Horrible fic. I have way too many things on the go already.
Anyway, I have a theory! Which will be laughably wrong, just wait.
(Theory contains Spoilers for part 1 and 2 of Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, but seriously, just go watch it)
Hee! I just have to say, OMG the pie metaphor in ACT 2! I laughed so hard I missed the next two lines. :-D
So, the theory.
I suspect Penny of secretly being evil, because she knows who Bad Horse is. A very thin thread to base a theory on, but whatever.
I think she's another applicant to the Evil League of Evil, and all this do-goodery stuff has been a ploy to get into Captain Hammer's lair and/or kill him and/or steal his stuff. And then she and Dr. Horrible are going to go off, live evilly (in a nice way) ever after and have several Horrible children. *nods like she's perfectly sane*
Or hey! Maybe she actually is Bad Horse! Oooo...
But all will be disproven when part 3 is up, I'm sure.
So yeah, I think Dr. Horrible is good stuff, go watch it for free (legally! O.O) while you can!

So... hi! *waves in a friendly sort of fashion*
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Penny were evil. I so wouldn't.

Wow! That's kind of awesome... and a little freaky... hello! :-) I doubt I'll have fic, but I may yet have a few sort of bland icons. :-)

There has to be something going on with her. I don't know much of Whedon's stuff, but it seems to me like she is waaaay too nice and sweet not to be evil, or at the very least, something other than she's presenting herself.
I mean, I haven't seen Firefly just the movie, but in that, Kaylee was a character that was nice and sweet and all, but she was also an engineering supergenius and kicked butt when the chips were down. I would be very surprised if Penny was not more than she appears to be. *nods*

I'm really liking the music, I seriously had no idea at all that Neil Patrick Harris could sing, even though he's apparently done a few musicals, but there's some stuff he does in "I Cannot Believe My Eyes" and "Brand New Day" that's quite awesome.
And like I said, I've had a kind of limited experience of Joss, aside from the few things I've seen and what I've picked up through cross-fandom osmosis. Not that I had anything against him just... *shrug*

The music is great - really catchy, and it all works so beautifully. I've been surprised by how well Harris can sing as well, he's really working it.
Ooh, you should try out Buffy and especially Firefly. They are oodles of awesome. *massive Joss love* And I'm quite a recent convert too, only a bit more than a year of Joss fangirlery. :)

I actually bought Firefly shortly after I watched the movie. Unfortunately, time being what it is and free time being mostly mythical, I haven't watched it yet, along with about 40 other tapes and DVDs. :-/ There's always stuff I need to do and I'm a bit weird in that if I'm watching something cool for the first time, I can't do anything else (except maybe write notes), I need to focus on what I'm watching, and there never seems to be time to do that these days. :-P
I did notice the news that through fan action, a set of Firefly DVDs had been taken up onto the Space Station for the astronauts to watch, and thought that was amazingly cool. :-)

*She's spending the night with Captain Hammer... and these are not the hammer!*
Have you checked out the comic strip? awesome!

At some point in time I will be watching Firefly, but my life and other projects are going to need to calm down a heck of a lot first. It's on my higher priority list now though. :-)
edited to fix code about a billion hours later, sorry. *facepalm*

Also, I think there are possibilities for extending the pie metaphor to Supernatural. For instance, maybe that would be all it takes for Dean to convince Henrickson of his (relative) innocence. Buy the guy some pie and then proceed to explain the significance of each layer. "You see, some people are blueberries, and some are apples, and some are rhubarb. Me, I'm a banana. Gets this bad rap for pretty innocent things like tripping people, but is really great in a pie."
Dangit, you're giving me plot bunnies. XD

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I have very meta reasons why Penny is not going to end up with Captain Hammer... I may post them if I get a chance later tonight. Or sooner.
Me, I'm a banana.
Ah, but see, a banana cream pie only has one crust. The upper surface is often whipped cream... so, if Dean is a banana cream pie, besides your excellent point about the maligned nature of bananas, he's an upside down banana cream pie. He has the hard crusty flaky surface he shows to the world, the sweet, gooey interior we see every so often that he tries to hide, and then the third layer under the sweet gooiness which is one of utter sugary fluff. Hee.

I was strapped for pie fruit, okay? Sorry. Now that I've had a bit more time to think, I think Dean's an apple. Crunchy, juicy, has to sliced when put into pie, and has erotic and demonic connotations. Maybe one of those hard woody tasting ones like a cox orange, that don't sound appealing till you try…. Additionally, apple pies tend to be rather gooey in the middle as well.

I suspect I'm not the first. I think the hard-core Whedon fans have likely been dissecting the parallels for a while now. :-)
I was strapped for pie fruit, okay? Sorry.
No, no, don't be sorry! You nailed it perfectly! Dean is totally and absolutely an upside down banana cream pie! His inner layer doesn't match his outer layer, it's soft and fluffy! :-D
no subject
I suppose this is true, or at least a valid assumption. Like you, I'm not heavily into the Whedonverse, though Firefly's grown on me and I like Buffy fic.
Dean is totally and absolutely an upside down banana cream pie!
Okay, I'll go with that, but then we have to explain why he's upside down. Inverted morals? Unique approach to legality? Dropped on his head too many times as a baby? It can't be whumpage since that seems to be largely reserved for Sam….
no subject
Upside-down as relates to society outside the Winchester family maybe? Because, ooo, because society expects its banana cream pies to be fluffy on the surface, banana-y in the middle and crusty on the bottom!
See, Dean's crusty on the outside because he needs to protect his soft sweet inner layers from being
eatenhurt, and as a result shows them rarely, and mostly around people he trusts which are very few. A standard society right-side up banana cream pie person would have a fluffy sweet, overpowering layer right out front covering their sticky-sweet banana layer, but deep in their core they're just bland and crusty.I think I've met a few right-side-up banana cream pie people. All fake smiles and 'best buddy' kind of appearances with a kind of inner layer of sweet and fun-loving, but when their crust finally shows you realize how fake they were being all along. They're nasty. ;-)
no subject
I think I've met right-side-up banana cream pie people too. Some of my former bosses, for instance. Most certainly nasty (much, I find, like right-side-up banana cream pie; will have to try it upside-down sometime).
no subject
It'd be messy, but you'd get the crust out of the way first and just have the sweet filling left, so it might be worth it. :-)
I don't think I'm going to look at a banana cream pie the same way again after this conversation :-D
(edited because after all that, I misspelled 'banana' :-P)
no subject
It might be indeed. Sadly, I don't think I know of anywhere around here that sells pies (except Save-On and Safeway, and they don't do slices). I'm certainly not talented enough to make one myself. Still, if I find an individual slice, I'll try it.

Me neither.
(edited because after all that, I misspelled 'banana' :-P)
But it's fun to misspell
bananana, banna, bananan, banana. XD 'Banana' now strikes me as a very silly word….no subject
Try Tim Hortons or another donut/coffee shop, maybe? Aside from that, yeah, it's mainly restaurants that do slices. :-)
no subject
Wow, just realized, it's incredibly hard for anyone to find banana cream pie these days, isn't it?
no subject
I think the last time I had banana cream pie I got one frozen from the grocery store, hacked it up while it was still frozen and them left an individual slice out to thaw if I wanted one.
no subject
Hmm. That's doable too, I suppose.
