Ooo, shiny!
So, a funny thing happened on the way home.
I was walking to my car in the 80kph wind and slushy rain, minding my own business and trying not to slip and fall when I glanced over at a bank of snow left from when the plough did the road and see something shiny. All togeher now - "Oooo, shiny!" So of course, I take a closer look at the snow bank.
This is of course not pristine snow, this is plough-leavings, building up and melting away since the 17th; road salt, mud, gravel, oil and grease and random crap. Lo and behold, there's part of a CD sticking out of the snow bank. I figure it's a piece that fell out of someone's trash or maybe one someone hung on a fence to scare the deer away, it wound up in the road and got ploughed off into the back. But, being themagpie good ex-Girl Guide that I am I had to go get the shiny thing, (er, I mean garbage) and make sure it got properly disposed of. So, pick my way into the snow bank carefully, reach over and pluck it out.
Hey! It's a whole CD! Cool!
*turns it over*
Holy Crap! It's Metallica!!! O.O
So, after a gentle washing with mild dish soap to get rid of the mud and salt and crap and god knows what all, I now have "The Black Album" by Metallica (according to Wikipedia). It's beat to hell, but so far only skips on track 3 and 4, one of which I already had. Gonna try uploading it to my iTunes, although I suspect it's too beat up for the drive to accept. Buuuut I think I know someone who can re-surface it cheap. Yay!

Have I mentioned that every time I see the book Metallica and Philosophy in my local bookshop I have a "must buy that for Sam-and-Dean" moment?
Then I remember that Sam and Dean are fictional, and so probably don't want a book on Metallica and philosophy.
Which makes me sad.

Don't get blown away. We haven't lost power...yet.

Funny, reading your description, since we spell it 'plow' here in the states I keep mentally hearing "pluffed" instead of "plowed." Which sounds more like a sound-effect than a verb!

I'd call that a good sign for the next year. Here's hoping 2009 will be filled with lots of sparkly, shiny stuff.
