Chaos has spent all day today, and overnight and will spend all day tomorrow at the vet. He had another collapsing incident. I managed to get a different vet at the same clinic who listened rather than getting defensive. They're doing tests to find out what's going on, and they have him on drips and things which at last report he was responding well to.

This initial visit and testing... well, let's say I've spent less money purchasing a used car, but I buy really crappy cars. In the best case scenario there will be frequent follow-up checking, but possibly surgery if the tests turn up something. I've cashed in my banked time at work to pay this first bill, (which was sort of my 'sick days' cushion, but oh well) and will deal with the rest as it comes up.

The only reason I seem to be handling this so well right now is that this vet was a reasonable person, and the rest of my life is making all this look like a hangnail. (I'm not getting into any of that because I do not want to be a drama llama.) Also helps that I plugged my brain into the TV for three hours, which has reduced it to a fine goo with the assistance of painkillers and muscle-relaxants.

Anyway. Life sucks, c'est la vie. Eventually I'll be entertaining again, it's inevitable. :-)

So sorry you and Chaos are going thru this. I know all too well the feelings of helplessness, and empty wallet syndrome, that comes when a pet is ill. Hang in there.

Thanks. It's frustrating, because he was fine the night before, no sign of anything being wrong, and then the next morning he's down.

This vet's part of the same clinic, so it was luck of the draw, but the other bozo is still down as my 'family vet' so I'll still have to deal with him. Also I think he owns the clinic, and he's usually the only one on when I can take Chaos in for a regular appointment so I'd have to deal with him regardless. :-/

Oh poor kitty. This has been a very bad two weeks for people's pets. I'm glad that he seems to be okay, and that you found a vet who will at least listen. If I can help at all, please let me know. :(

Oh dear. Poor booboo kitty. I hope they find out what's wrong and can fix him up quickly. There are few things worse than a sick pet. *pets you both*

So sorry to hear this. Poor Chaos! (And poor you.) I'm praying for you both.

Is there anything we can do to help out financially? I donate money all over the place all the time - I could chip in to a 'Chaos fund' if that would make life easier for you.

Oh gods, I was hoping he wouldn't have any more problems. *Massive hugs* for both of you. At least the person at the vet wasn't a wanker this time and listened. Thinking positive Chaos will be back home soon. And tv is good for not thinking, I agree.

I know, everyone seems to be having sick animals this week, I don't know what's going on. :-/

He's home now, and on a vastly reduced dose from what the idiot doctor had prescribed, and he's got a follow up next week to see how it's going.

I got home yesterday and Chaos wasn't here and.... yeah. :-/

Heh. No, there are way worthier causes for donation than my cat. I'll figure it out on my own, but thanks for the offer. :-)

Chaos is home and subdued from all the poking and prodding and incarceration. He's got his first of probably many follow-up appointments next week.

I went to take our dogs out the other day and I usually call them by name and ended up calling, "Dallas!" And then realized my mistake and well, ya know. I said, "No one heard that right?" And of course 2 kids were like, "I did!" Whoops. It's a reflex I guess.

So, I totally know how attached one becomes to their pets. And I can definitely sympathize with coming home and them not being there. :*( I am so glad he's home now though! And sounds like maybe your "new" vet has a handle on things. *hugs*

I hope I can keep a handle on her. The other guy is still down as my vet, she just was the one that was there, and he's still the one getting all the reports and stuff, and being an ass.

He was there when I picked up Chaos yesterday and I just, I couldn't even look at him. There was a wodge of discharge information for Chaos they gave me at the vet, he asked me if I had it, I said "Yeah," and didn't really talk to him. He was standing there when I handed the discharge sheet over to the receptionist and when I double-checked to make sure I got it back. When I got home, I noticed the sheet didn't say when Chaos' last dose of insulin had been, and therefore I didn't know when he was due for the next one, so I called up the vet office. I got the receptionist who didn't know and said she'd get hold of the tech and call me back, I gave her my home number.

Next thing I know, I have a bitchy message on my alternate voice mail (not the number I was waiting to be called back on) from the evil vet saying, "All the information is on those discharge papers you said you'd gotten but I guess now that you didn't actually get them, so can you call back so we can confirm that you did actually get those papers because they're important? We will fax them to you." Implication there being I'm either an idiot that can't read, or that I had lied about getting the discharge papers. The latter being the almost-direct implication, even after he had seen me getting them back from the receptionist. Whatever. He says to call back, I call back the office because he didn't leave another number, I get the answering service.

Eventually, he gets around to calling me on the number I left for him, and I very civilly explained that the information was not all there, I read the entire relevant document back to him and eventually he gave me the time of Chaos' last dose.

I have no idea what this guy's problem is, but I'm beginning to think he has some kind of issue with me specifically. I'm hoping I can manage to arrange follow-up visits for when the other vet is on, and just avoid contact with this bozo altogether. :-/

Sounds like that moron clearly has no idea what he is doing, or what a proper dose it--and wonderful Chaos suffers the consequences. *Kicks doctor.* Glad the prodding and being in a strange place is over--and that you have him to come home to--VERY important:)

In theory, yeah. He owns the clinic, which is a pain, and is usually the only doctor available when I can bring Chaos in on those weird hours. I will definitely be doing anything I can to avoid him. I do not know what his damage is.

He's got to go back to the strange place for testing again next week for the entire day, and after that as far as I know, every week for an unspecified while. :-(

Oh man. DX I hope your cat's okay. My family had a very similar scare a couple months ago. Our cat was sick for a week and a half, and looked to be dying, but he made it through. I hope it's the same for you, except with less sick time.

It's most likely something connected with his diabetes, so it's going to be something that needs long-term management rather than something to get over. :-/

Diabetes? Ouch. Poor kitty. But long-term management's doable, and much less painful than euthanasia. *hugs* I hope he's better now.
