MBV3D - the rental
Rented My Bloody Valentine tonight, since I is broke to death and had a free rental and neeeeeded to see the movie again.
-Renting the movie, very necessary, but there were no bloopers or deleted scenes on the disk? I'm hoping that's just rental copies. Also, either the Real-D glasses don't work on the home version or the angle of screen to eye was wrong, or my TV is crap because there was no hope of it working. Given the colour of it, I suspect the old red/blue glasses were required.
-Axel totally saw Tom alive in the mine before he drove away. With eye contact and everything. The girls didn't see Tom because of the cracked windshield and the panic and the pickaxe. Axel deliberately left Tom there to die so he could rescue Sarah, be her hero and win her over. Axel is and always will be an evil, evil fucker.
-Holy crap, it actually wasn't Jensen in the miner suit, it was a third guy??? Whoever did the casting for that needs an Oscar for finding a duplicate for not only Jensen's shoulders, but his walk and combat style. I would have, and probably did swear that that was really Jensen the whole time. o.O
-The blood in the hospital scene was primarily maple syrup, leading to one of the best lines of the commentary: "pancake house from Hell" *glee*
-I love that the director and writer are so gushy in the commentary about all the actors, including and especially Jensen. I love that they went on about his sense of camera angle and framing and said he'll make a fantastic director when he decides to do that, because he really will.
-I also love how much input the actors apparently had into the script and scenes. I love that the actress playing the maid who got cooked in the dryer tried to fit herself into her home dryer to see if it would work, and was worried that she wouldn't fit for the scene.
-During the shooting of the 'Harry catches Tom before he gets out of the mine scene' at the start apparently Jensen got accidentally whacked right in the eye and just kept on going because he didn't want to slow down shooting. Gaaaah. He's nuts, but that's pretty hardcore there.
-Towards the end of the commentary, when Tom's revealed to be the bad guy, one of the guys commenting said something like "...aaaand that's when all the Supernatural fans started hating us." Hee! They also mention Supernatural later during the 'maybe Sarah reached Tom' fake-out moment, saying something like "And now all the Supernatural fans think maybe it's okay now, he's good, we're back on the road with Sam and Dean, buuut... no."
-They mentioned that when Harry's blood is sprayed in Tom's face in the mine at the start, that's when the 'transference' happens. They go on about it being a mental illness later, but, dude, they said transference. Or transfer. The implication being something was transferred from Harry to Tom with the blood. It's totally evil mine pixies. Or some kind of Balrog-extracted Croatoan virus. Yeah. *nods*
To sum up: Great commentary, loads of little tidbits, and I really really need to go buy the damn thing now, because I think the rental copy is missing stuff, arg.

You do need the red/blue glasses - but they still SUCK. Horror Fandom is not impressed with the digitial transference.

I also love their bloodthirsty glee that the pick axe gets stuck in his jaw. They devote and entire extra to it.

The extra disc has lots on the special effects, and that's cool. The blooper real is funny, too. I don't think you get it or the special effect extras on the regular edition of the cd.
At the LA con, Jensen said it wasn't him in the suit until they did that montage at the end. Blew my mind, too. Cause I went back to the theater to see it again and try to figure out if it was him and when it was him. He said the dude followed him around to get his walk, but was about 6 inches or so shorter. Couldn't tell it from the way they filmed it.

The commentary was so much fun to listen to! I loved how much they loved Jensen ;)
I giggled when they got going on the 'he's so dreamy' stuff. That was just silly. All the little bits about things he added to the script, and his sense of scene and that fight being entirely Jensen and Kerr at the end, and all the little comments about his professionalism were awesome though. :-D

Nope. The rental is a two-sided disk that's confusing even as to which side is 3d and which side is 2d. It had commentary, theatre trailer and that's about it. Also had at least 15 minutes of trailers for other movies. :-P

I couldn't tell at all. I went in to the theatre the first time absolutely certain that it had been Jensen in the suit in the commercials. That was really well done.

I was disappointed in the 3d quality, too. My rental place gave us 3d glasses (actually we had to pay 15 cents for each pair) and they SUCKED. I have a nice TV, too (42" LCD), so I thought it would look okay, but me and the husband gave up on the 3d after about 15 minutes. Everything was blurry, and while a few things looked cool jumping out, for the most part it looked blurry and overly red/green.
There weren't any bloopers on mine, either, but I know there are bloopers and other extras on a different version of MBV DVD release.
And, dude, yes! Right at the beginning I turned to my hubby and said, that is *so* Jensen's walk (of course, hubby looked at me like I was crazy)- look at how bow-legged the guy is and all stompy just like Jensen! (cue more 'you are crazy' looks from hubby)... alas I was wrong! Good stunt guy.

I guess the theatre Real-D needed a theatre screen to work. I'm very glad now hat I went and saw it in the theatre, as insane as that trip was to take.

They're out there, I've seen (not seen seen, but seen listed in the newsletter) icons from the blooper reel, so it exists.

See, now I'm kicking myself for not going... and it was playing in 3d fairly nearby to me.
Though, hubby summed up his feelings on the movie pretty well- "Any episode of Supernatural is better and scarier than this movie" :) He's such a nerd. I liked it, though I think I would have enjoyed it more in the theatre in 3d. That was a bummer.
Oh well :) Will you be renting Friday the 13th for Jared? Or did you see it already? I missed that one, too!

Well, yeah. I laughed almost the whole way through this in the theatre at the jumps and gore. It's a slasher flick. It could have been really tense, creepy and atmospheric with half the gore and it would have freaked the crap out of me. Over the top gore, I just see corn syrup and latex. Awesome corn syrup and latex, but still. :-)
I liked it, though I think I would have enjoyed it more in the theatre in 3d. That was a bummer.
I did a full recap of the movie when I saw it in the theatre (it's under the mbv3d tag if you're interested), and really, the incidental 3D of things like the truck driving down the hill like it's going to drive right out of the screen and all the light sources seeming like actual beams of light, with the haloing and so forth was fantastic. It's a shame that it didn't translate to the DVD. :-/
Oh well :) Will you be renting Friday the 13th for Jared? Or did you see it already? I missed that one, too!
Haven't seen it, but I'll be renting it. Not sure yet if I'll be buying it.

Glad I wasn't the only one confused about which side was which on the disc! I think it's labeled backwards.
I've got a large tv, and it was blurry in 3D, unless I stood further back than I normally watch from and straight in front of the tv. It still wasn't great.

Better idea than what I tried as a kid. I took red and blue markers and colored my glasses. Very glad they weren't permanent markers or mom would have killed me.
