So I hear quantum physics and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN had a busy day yesterday? Also, Stephen Hawking lost a bet.

And here's a video about the thing the fuss is all about, as explained by the wonderfully named Ian Sample (who I once erroneously assumed was a filler put in by the BBC props department) using ping pong balls and sugar.

I was thinking about the implication for traveling at light speed yesterday. If someone made a ship and all its contents not subject to the Higgs field, or figured out what makes photons etc that don't get Higgs'd able to ignore it and then apply that to space travel, it might work. And communication, energy transmission, all sorts of things. I'm thinking in a hundred years there'll be at least some kind of light speed probe that's able to keep communicating, barring catastrophic Earth environmental and sociopolitical failures, of course. :-P

Once they settle their findings down and start getting to grips with it, there'll probably be all sorts of TV specials and books aimed at the not-intensely science-backgrounded person. I'd like to see another "Brief History" style book but that's probably a way off yet.

There's new science things happening, it's all so cool! \o/

We shall ignore the sociopolitical aspect, add a dash of quantum loopholes (because they are nifty, and I am obsessed), and take a trip to CERN to discuss your idea;)
