SPN Drabbles: Differences of Opinion (Conversations)

Title: Differences of Opinion

Summary: Two conversation drabbles. Two differences of the same opinion about the same movie.
Notes: Written for supernatural100 Challenge #71 - Serenity. Contains spoilers for the movie "Serenity"


A/N: Couldn't decide which Winchester would be defending "Serenity/Firefly" to the other, so, here's both, in turn. The two drabbles are mutually exclusive. Also, apologies to Firefly fans, probably. I've seen the movie and maybe two episodes, something I intend to remedy when work lets me have my life back.



Explaining Serenity


"Well, that was lame."

"What!? It was an awesome movie!"

"It made no sense, Dean."

"See, if you'd been watching the series when it was on-"

"Law school didn't leave much time for watching TV."

"Yeah, well, chalk up another reason law school sucks."

"Okay, fine. Explain to me what's so awesome about it?"

"Well for one, there's River."

"Dean-"

"And Kaylee, and Inara, and-"

"Dean!"

"What?"

"Besides the women, what's so awesome about the movie? Like for instance, when that pilot guy-"

"Wash."

"Yeah, Wash. Why'd you get all choked up when Wash died?"

"I did not get choked up."

"Did too, you kept clearing your throat."

"Popcorn. Those little husks are nasty."

"You sniffled."

"Hayfever."

"..."

"A cold!"

"Whatever, Dean."

The Naming of Things


"They named their spaceship after a bug?"

"The ship is called Serenity, the ship design is called Firefly."

"So... someone else named a whole bunch of spaceships after a bug."

"Dean-"

"Unless they named them after the hatchback? Maybe the spaceship was made by Pontiac. Only in the future, you know, when cowboys roam outer space."

"You know, Dean, your car is named after an antelope."

"... Don't go there, Sam."

"A cute, furry, small, cud-chewing antelope."

"I mean it."

"Preyed upon by everything in the African savannah."

"Do you want to walk to Florida, Sam? 'Coz in a minute I'm gonna kick your spaceship bug-loving ass out of my antelope."

I've done some larger all-dialog things too, if you're interested. They're under the "Conversations" tag and vary from schmoopy to cracky.

Cute drabbles! Dean would sooo love Inara. I can totally see him echoing Jayne’s “I’ll be in my bunk” quite a lot.

Thanks! Someone pointed out in a review over at ff.net that the actress who plays Inara was supposed to play a love interest for a character played by Jensen Ackles on "Still Life". The show never made it to air, but there is definitely a Pilot and I think a couple episodes filmed out there somewhere. Kind of a neat point of trivia.

Yeah, I watched some of the clips with her in it, and it was weird seeing her as someone other than Inara, because that's the only role I've seen her play.

Dean in no way at all being emotional when Wash died was touching in the first view and Sam describing the Metallicar as "A cute, furry, small, cud-chewing antelope." [snip] "Preyed upon by everything in the African savannah." was hilariously perfect in a very *Sam* way.

Dude, I hadn't seen a single episode of Firefly when a bunch of friends dragged me off to see Serenity in the theatre and I got teary over Wash dying. Dean, if he followed the series? Totally would.

I'm gonna have that running through my head for weeks! It's a fantabulously perfect bit of Dean!snark.

As far as who would be more likely to be a fanboy of Firefly... I'd have to say that Sam's more likely on that front. As much as Dean seems to be more in-tune with pop culture in general, Sam just fits the off-the-wall sci-fi freak mold a little better than Dean. (I can also see Sam at an anime convention. Damnit. Now I've got another plotbunny. Damn things breed faster than fruit-flies at a dump.)
