RANT: Asylum incident
This is a rant. Contains very foul language and rage, and has necessitated me making an angry "GRAR!" icon. You have been warned.
Reaction to a report about an incident that happened at Asylum.
From this otherwise wonderful report in

Okay, that? Is so wrong on so many levels. She jumped at him and chased him into a fucking elevator? That is assault, I don't care who the target is. "Random crazy fangirl" better be glad she's on the other side of the fucking globe and damn well better be in jail for assault.
I am not a violent person, at all. I don't even swear usually. But this incident makes me fucking enraged and feeling rather violent regarding this person's behavior. I feel like screaming. How absolutely disrespectful and, just, GOD!
Words can't express how much it aggrieves me that I even feel the need to ask where the flaming fuck security was. Not Jensen Ackles' security, just security! I have been at conventions where the guests move freely among the attendees, and security has never been an issue for so much as a peep. The convention has its own security on top of hotel security. Regardless, behaviour like this from a 'fan', from anyone, is inexcusable. It's assault.
She jumped up on him and chased him into an elevator. She attacked him. This is not a fucking cutsey, over-excited fangirl thing. This is assault.
The last time I felt this mad and upset was when a friend of mine was assaulted in a potentially lethal manner. Maybe that's disproportionate, and maybe I'm being irrational or hormonal or something, but I'm so enraged by this I feel like my head is floating.
I'm going to stop yelling into the ether now, and go do something distracting, and hopefully productive. Write something. Probably with a lot of swearing and violence in it. I may lock this post after I've calmed down.
Just... GRAR!
ETA: Okay, it was even worse according to
mrscutedean in this post:
If that cigarette part is true, the bitch is in jail. Even if Jensen declined to press charges, which celebrities sometimes do, the bouncer can get her locked up.
I repeat. It's a good thing this person is half a world away from me right now.

| Some random crazy fangirl literally jumped Jensen though; she ran at him and nearly bowled him over when she jumped up on him. He tried to escape into the elevator but got chased in there too. |

| However earlier a rabid fan was thrown out at like 10.30 for misconduct she jumped up onto Jensen grabbed his arse put her arms around his neck and put her legs on his waist then was wrestled off, she then shoved a cigarette into a bouncers neck. Jensen was shoved into a lift and taken off, but apparantly everyone was shaken, anyway we all had our bags confiscated from then on. |

everyone on twop was talking about that in the jensen thread and how wrong it was. its that kind of stuff that gives fangirls like us a really bad name. most of us just really really love the show and the way jensen brings dean to life and all that and yeah, he's hot. but i'll be the first to say that even if he looked like carrottop or something bad like that, i'd still love him to death for playing dean the way he does.

I think I said once way back when in the Ackles thread that I'd watch his acting even if he had a face like a foot or something like that. He's such a wonderful actor, and the sheer objectification has always made me really uncomfortable, and sad, because people focus on appearances and miss how good he truly is.
I've been avoiding TWoP (and just about everything else) due to spoilerphobia this week, so thanks for letting me know the reaction over there. On the original entry almost none of the comments even mention it, and those few that do are treating it very lightly. It makes me feel sick.

I'm not having much luck with the calming down thing right now. This incident physically sickens me, and I'm rather glad I don't have blood pressure issues or I would be stone dead from a rage-induced aneurysm at this point.

Ok, you know what? I think Ackles should go ahead and press charges. If he doesn't, then the bouncer should. Ackles being a celebrity is a non-issue here. The bottomline is that the girl acted outside of the confine of the law. An assault is an assault is an assault. That's grave misconduct there because it could have been so much worse. What if that girl had a deadly weapon or something that could have put Ackles and the security at risk? That's so stupid and disheartening. God.

According to another report I read, Jensen took about fifteen minutes to gather himself, and then continued on with the convention. One of his buddies Jason Mann was reportedly sitting right up front at the next panel and security was a lot more conspicuous. All reports I've seen so far indicate Jensen is being a trooper about it all. Makes me feel like crying.
I swear, if this person ever surfaces online bragging about what she did, I'll... honest to god, I don't know what I'd do.

And then more details started coming out about the cigarette, and that she literally jumped on him--and she immediately went from "idiot" to "scary psycho" in my head. I think one person even said he had to drop to the floor to get her off of him.
I wouldn't blame Jensen if he never did a con again.

Oh, I fully expect he won't, and will probably keep away from all public appearances as much as possible. And I will glare and probably yell at anyone who badmouths him for it if that's what he does because of this.
This incident is sickening.

I can't help but wonder what would have happened if it had been a male fan mauling a female celebrity.

I hate double standards. Gender and celebrity status should never matter with stuff like this. This is assault. It's a violent crime, and there is no excuse for it.

I don't have anything more constructive to say. I just wanted to capslock in your direction and let you know you're not alone in this.

Oh hell yeah. I am not a violent person, I don't have much of a temper at all usually, but this? I haven't been this enraged since one of my close friends was assaulted. If the person that did this ever surfaces on the net? I don't know what I'd do.
I just wanted to capslock in your direction and let you know you're not alone in this.
Capslock away. One of the things that was making me even angrier and sicker about the incident was that nearly every comment about it I saw last night was treating it like it was a big damn joke or something.
One comment from an attendee even said that they were fucking lucky it happened because it meant they (the commenter) weren't late to the panel because Jensen Ackles had to take fifteen minutes to gather himself together after that shit, so the panel was delayed. Holy fucking Christ on a pogo stick, I wanted to reach through the monitor and slap the shit out of them! It was an f-locked comments thread so I couldn't even
yell at the bintcorrect her thinking sternly. I was so pissed I don't even remember which post it was on or who, but it was one of the ones from theSo yeah, capslock away.

And that? Is the problem. This wasn't funny or a joke. He could have been seriously hurt, hell, she could have been an actual crazy person and had a gun or a knife. It is simply NOT FUNNY.

Why, just WHY would anyone even SAY something like that? This whole thing is simply not being taken as seriously as it should be. And I'm sorry to say it, but I wouldn't blame him if he never let a fangirl within fifty feet of him from now on. So unacceptable. This whole goddamn fandom is reacting in such an immature way. Why on earth aren't they taking it more seriously?

Absolutely. It makes me ill to think how much worse it could have been.
This whole goddamn fandom is reacting in such an immature way. Why on earth aren't they taking it more seriously?
I know. I have seen more "taking it seriously" reactions today, though, which is heartening. I'm betting his publicity people will be trying to downplay the incident as much as possible, which burns my buttons.
This whole incident is indicative of one of the reasons I get very uncomfortable about Jensen and Jared, or anyone, being objectified. Objectification distances people from remembering that celebrities are human beings and have as much right to go about their day without being assaulted or harrassed as anyone else. No matter if they are at a public appearance or walking down the street. (Not that everybody who objectifies a celebrity does something as heinous as this, of course.)
I would understand completely if Jensen Ackles never did a convention again and avoided all fan contact, and would defend his decision to anyone I see badmouthing him for it.
