No, not tonight's episode.

That damned eight hour tape I keep bitching about? The one I've kept using despite its proven treachery because not using every single minute of a VHS tape goes against my nature and my current budget of bugger all? Unspooled and snarled around the internal workings of my only VCR.

It was like a bad remake of the final torture scenes of "Braveheart", really. Writ small, in magnetic mylar and out-dated video equipment, complete with agonized electronic squealing. The tape mostly came out again in one mangled piece, but....

Every single third season episode to date. Gone. Foom. Buh-bye.

As an extra added bonus the VCR is toast. It makes angry banging noises if I put any tape in now, recording or watching. Honestly, I don't blame it.

I did manage to see 3.07 twice before the evisceration, and took notes, but after the appalling anxiety-ridden week I've had, the culminating rancid crapfest that tomorrow will be, and the fact that with no functioning VCR I can't record anything or watch anything on VHS until I replace it some time in 2008 maybe...

I'm completely and utterly freaking done.

I'd love to say something meaningful and perspective-granting or whatever, but I got nothing.

But you do have my empathy.

I know it's not the end of the world. I'm going to take a bash at fixing the VCR tomorrow, and I can re-acquire the episodes one way or another, but seriously, absolutely everything had gone horribly wrong all week and that was fate being a smartass and kicking me in my last remaining refuge. :-P

I'm so sorry, I know whenever my VCR broke, I would literally run to the nearest electronics store and buy a new one. At least SPN is on hiatus until Dec. 13 so that gives you some time to scrape together money for a new VHS. I don't know if it helps but here is a link to some of the black Friday sales coming up next week. There are some really good prices, so maybe you can replace your VCR sooner than you think.

I'm going to take a bash at fixing the VCR tomorrow, and see if there isn't something just popped loose or some tape bit stuck somewhere. I tape Chuck, Heroes and Torchwood as well, so I'm really hoping it might be something simple and obvious.

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving here in the States. Stores kick off the shopping season by opening the stores at ungodly hours (usually 5:00 am or earlier, and having certain preselected merchandise at really cheap prices. They usually only have a limited amount of the sale items, but it brings in tons of shoppers and starts the Christmas shopping season off with a bang. Of course, you being in Canada this helps you not at all. Sorry, I didn't check where you lived, my helpful thought was useless. Good luck fixing the VHS.

Black Friday sounds... really bizarre, actually. 5:00 AM? I'm kind of glad I don't have access to the option of shopping at that hour. God only knows what I'd buy! XD I'm hoping for a pre-christmas sell-down of old stock somewhere, but if I can fix the VCR, I can hold off on trying to scrounge up a new one till after the Boxing Day sales and New Year sales when the real discounting hits, and/or people put their old a/v equipment in the 'Buy, Sell, and Trade' Thank for your help! :-)

It was the absolute final straw for that day. I am so annoyed that I kept using that stupid tape, and I'm never buying those 8-hour things again.

I'm gonna try getting inside the VCR tomorrow and see if there's something simple and obvious that I can pry loose or wibble. The tape is a definite goner though. :-(

No worries. I've got a DVD player, it's a VCR I'm after. I'm a teensy bit of a packrat and luddite, I guess, and 80% of my movies and tv shows are on VHS cassette tapes.

I'm going to try taking the VCR apart tomorrow and seeing if there's an obvious bit of tape still stuck somewhere, or something obviously out of whack that I might be able to tweak unti I can get a new one.
