Random: News Report on Vancouver
Man, I really hope the show isn't doing any location shoots in the downtown Vancouver area right now.
Power's out in downtown Vancouver
Apparently there was an underground explosion and fire. No huge destruction or stuff like that, it's not a major disaster, but the power's out.
According to the news, this happened at 9 AM this morning and it took 12 hours to clear the fumes from the area for BC Hydro (power company) to get in and assess the situation. A major line of 14 cables has to be completely replaced. They estimate two or three days to get power back. About 3000 customers are out including huge office buildings, hotels, and apartments, I think they said on the news, as well as water pumps, traffic signals, and the electric trolley lines for parts of the transit system are all out.
Seriously though, the downtown Vancouver area's going to be a truly scary place (more so than usual) tonight and for the next few nights while they're in the dark. I hope anyone who's there is okay and keeps safe.

didn't Vancouver have one of the major substations or something go on the fritz last summer? they could get by with one but were asking people to cut down on their power usage....I wonder if it's related?
*also hoping everyone in the affected areas stays safe*

The show usually sticks to other parts of the Lower Mainland. They're in Surrey a lot and the main offices are in Burnaby, but they do occasionally shoot in the more urban areas. Costs a heck of a lot though for permits and interfereing with traffic and so forth so it's a very off off chance they'd be filming where the power outage is. Still, there is a chance.
I've been on foot in downtown Vancouver alone at night. It's freaky enough as it is.

I don't think we need to worry about filming. They don't shoot in downtown. It's always out in the burbs or the rural areas or UBC, none of which would be affected. ^^

*pities you with your bus system, if the System of Death is better*

It's okay as long as you don't have a scheduled day where you have to be anywhere at any particular time. I've had to give up trying to make it work as a practical transporation system entirely though. :-P

Don't blame you. I'm gradually developing paranoia about my own. (The Bus God is out to get me. >>)

The Bus God is out to get me.
Hm. Sam and Dean Vs the God of Transit Systems. I bet that god is closely related to Tricksters. ;-)

Sounds like the start of a horror movie. I was on one of those things when there was an emergency stop and the thing went from zipping along at top speed to a dead stop in less than a second, and I observed the reason they tell people not to lean against the doors. Sudden stops make them jump open a little. Very freaky.
I love the Skytrain though. I can't go to Vancouver without riding on it at least once, or spending some time just listening to it running along the tracks.

It does, doesn't it? Yeah, when the bus gets really full here, people sometimes lean against the doors, or in the stairwell and they get thrown around a bit. One lady fell down the stairs of a double decker once...I don't think she was hurt though.

"Dude, we've been waiting here for an hour!"
"Actually, Dean, it's only been 45 minutes."
"Still. You'd think the bus would be on time."
"Dean, it's a city bus. They're all like this."
"Huh. Really?"
"Really."
"Huh."
"Especially when you need to get somewhere."
"Huh."
"It's part of Murphy's Law."
"Damn Murphy. …Think we could take him on?"
