Watch Star Trek, there are ALWAYS grown-up-type expenses coming, you would't be able to buy a new pair of shoes going by that and seriously you can get a copy of MBV3D in a month or so, too. I totally would watch Star Trek if I could... Anyone wanna babysitt for me?
By the way 10 Dollars?! That's how much cinema costs up there? In Austria I can watch a normally lenghth film at about 5€ (must be around 6$). So actually you could go to cinema AND save a few bucks
Yeah, but the plane ticket would be a bit much ;-)
Normal is $7.95 Canadian, tonight was $9.99 including a big popcorn and drink. That's actually pretty cheap around this area, I think. I don't go to theatres usually.
Yeah, this movie is one of the in-the-theatre ones, partly from the spoilage factor and partly from the special fx eye candy. The last Trek movie I saw in the theatre was the one where Data served as a flotation device and I swear that's the only thing I remember about it.
there was a Trek movie where Data was used as a floatation device?
I forget which one, it was something about age and youth and they all fell into the water somewhere and Data said something like, "I am also programmed to serve as a flotation device," went 'pft' and proceeded to float a bit higher, like his pants had filled with air. I had Red Dwarf flashbacks at that point and wondered if Data had been swapped with Kryten. :-P
What on earth were the writers on?!
Desperation and coffee fumes I suspect. It was a cute moment, but honestly, I can't remember anything else much about it.
The movie you are talking about is Insurrection (at least that was the working title), the second to the last Star Trek movie where there is a planet where people do not age - in fact they become healthier and the Son'ar and a few high members of the Federation want this planet for their own purposes.
There were a few strange moments in this movie but frankly it made a lot more sense than the last one. And no, I'm no Trekki (anymore).
Crash? Hm... Generations? The last one was about the Rihannsu and ...it's all a bit hazy... but I think there was this other bald guy kind of an genetic offspring of Picard or something
I know someone on the forum who has seen it 5 times, going for a 6th. So I voted just go..lol Really, it was worth seeing on a big screen:) Most fun I have had in general at a movie in a long time.
I ticked everything ST related. I'm going to see it for a third time tomorrow... Yeah. Grown-up expenses? What are these things of which you speak? Grups are idjits.
I refuse to be sucked back into fandom again. Or get appropriate icons. I've got all I can do to keep up with SPN and a little Leverage and Sons of Anarchy thrown in. I can be a Trekkie in the privacy of my own house. Still got Spock ears some-place.
Back when I was active, on-line wasn't even thought of! It was all snail mail and printing fanzines using those blue stencil things...can't remember what they were called, but if you made a typo, you had to start over, and having parties to put the zines together. It was fun back then...more books and less media sci-fi.

... mimeo? Ditto? Gestetner? I'm a little more recent than that; they were photocopies, and I used a desktop publishing program but it was all snail-mail.

While it's kind of cool that sci-fi and fantasy have become so widely accepted as entertainment by the general population, I do miss the kind of 'subculture' feel of fandom, (not that much was still left when I started going to cons in the 80's). Also, by the same token, it's sad that sci-fi and fantasy are being used as straight-up entertainment so much, without the heart of thinking and speculation that sci-fi and fantasy are given to.
I think that's part of the reason I love Supernatural so much. There's more going on than just what is directly seen on the screen.
Although - trust me - the movie is not necessary to read the fic - I find myself getting snotty. Kirk is not Dean Winchester and Spock is not Sam. They should not sound alike.
And Bones drinks mint juleps - not scotch or bourbon. /fandom snit fit
Oh, just from stuff in the commercials alone I can hear members of my old Trek clubs' heads exploding. Even moreso over several of the spoilers I've heard and seen. I know one guy who violently refuses to acknowledge Enterprise as part of the Trek universe because Imperial Klingons landed on Earth in the first episode.
I fully expect established canon to be blown to hell by this movie, and since I'm not anywhere near as invested in Trek canon as I once was, this prospect amuses me.
I'm probably to late for this poll as it's hmmm, 7:30 by you, but you should go see it!!! Dooooo iiiiitttttt!!!! I haven't seen it, but someone who is (or was, whatever) a fan should really see it in the theatre. *nods*
STAR TREK STAR TREK STAR TREK STAR TREK STAR TREK STAR TREK STAAAR TREEEK. *cough* I'm completely calm. But seriously...well you probably already decided but ST is AMAZING. It turned me into a Trekkie

also - boring is always there, dvds are there a long time, but theatre movies are ephemeral and should be enjoyed because of that :D
