A/N: GNH!! Okay, one Trek-related drabble. Because the crossover hit me in the middle of a typical day in Hell yesterday and I had to follow it. It's not even a funny drabble. I suck. [LJ-only]

As a boy, he dreams of horses. Most children do, growing up where cowboys roamed four centuries ago. History infects childhood dreams.

His dreams aren't of cowboys.

At night he rides into battle, others thundering alongside, swords and armor gleaming. Facing monstrous hordes; racing toward death. Sometimes he's exiled, loyal to an usurped crown. Sometimes he's King.

Always, he dreams death.

Death at his side, death by his orders, death on his blade. People - humans, aliens, strange Vulcans with flowing golden hair - fight and die and fight and die and fight and die.

Leonard McCoy awakens, and chooses to fight for life.

Post A/N: *smishes Karl Urban* Also I looked everywhere online but I could not determine the color of frigging elf blood in LOTR-verse or I would have made reference. Haldir's death is too damn dark to tell and none of the other elvish bastards ever seems to bleed! At least not in screencaps.

Elves do have red blood. I'm not 100% sure if it's mentioned in the Lord of the Rings or the Simarillion, but it is definitely red.

I thought so, but I couldn't find a single reference to it online, and the only thing about elf blood I found at all was talking about elves in mythology having green blood because as Fae creatures iron was poisonous to them. No reference to Tolkien elf blood at all. It was very frustrating.

I'd go out on a limb and say that since elves breathe (without difficulty) the same air as humans, their blood would be red, too. At least I think the colour of blood is directly affected by what the body accepts as vital to survival and functioning, and oxygen colours hemoglobin red. But there are other oxygen-carriers, and not all of them appear even distantly red(dish) when oxygenated... Hmm.

Don't quote me on that. Had a long day. Can't brain/remember.

Actually it's not the oxygen but the iron in our blood giving it the red color. That's the reason Vulcans have green blood - at least the reason given in TOS.

Yes. Vulcan blood is copper-based. :-)

Vulcan blood is supposed to be copper-based, which is why it's green; that's the color of copper-rust. I was pretty sure elves were red, but I couldn't find backup references so I went with the blond thing instead. Plus, Middle Earth's a realm of magic, so oxygen transport systems could be anything, really. :-D

Ooo! Really? I haven't seen Bourne Supremacy, but if that character bled through as well, McCoy would be a very disturbed little boy, and even more determined to make people not die. :-D
