SPN Fanfic: The Case of Robert Singer; Superhero

More comment-fic.

Title: The Case of Robert Singer; Superhero
Rating: GEN, PG
Word Count: 300
Warnings: Season 4 references, mild crack
Disclaimer: Not mine
Summary: For the [livejournal.com profile] spngenlove John, Bobby and Castiel comment-fic meme prompt from [livejournal.com profile] claudiapriscus - Bobby with a secret superpower. Perhaps it can be discovered. The idea just makes me giggle.
A/N: Probably not what was intended by the prompt, but I hope it's okay. [lj-only for now]

Exhibit A

One weekend to convert an old underground fuel storage tank into an Apocalypse bunker? Doable, with the know-how and the right equipment.

Keeping the salt-coated iron walls from rusting, ah, now there was a challenge. You'd think. But they were Bobby's salt-coated iron walls, so they didn't dare rust.

Exhibit B

Bobby's house was full of books. Stuffed to the rafters. Name a tome, he probably had it, somewhere. He didn't have a filing system other people understood. Made it too easy for a person with sticky fingers to find the dangerous books. Sticky fingers, the gall (or desperation) to betray Bobby's trust and a burning need for an ass-load of rocksalt.

If Bobby was feeling ornery, he'd tell a hunter he'd have to go look for the book; it was green with gold lettering on the spine, or maybe blue with silver lettering, somewhere in the unsorted stacks. Could take weeks to find.

If he judged it to be a rush, Bobby would pick the book out of the unsorted stacks and dole out the information in under an hour. If it was an emergency, he'd quote the relevant portion verbatim without looking it up.

If it was a genuine emergency, he wouldn't pretend it strained his memory to do so.

Exhibit C

Five phones, a handful of hunters who liked to be smart-asses and use creative or unpronounceable aliases, and a minimum of eight 'official' identities to keep straight whenever one of those phones rang. Bobby answered them all and kept every story as straight as a mile of Highway 46.

None of the callers ever questioned the bacon frying, the dog barking, or on one notable occasion, an exorcism in progress in the next room.

Conclusion

"Bobby," said Dean, standing in the Apocalypse bunker and smiling with his whole face. "You're awesome!"

Some superpowers aren't so secret after all.

Bobby is AWESOME. We know this for trufax. Even superheroes stand in awe of Robert Steven Singer.

Very cute little ficcie, CK - and it makes me want to try (again) to put together that Bobby-Aaron adventure.

I kinda know how you feel. From a reader's perspective, I've really been enjoying the 4th and post-4th season fics. There's just something about this last season, combined with the freedom/boredom of summer that's lead to a lot of really neat stories. Once the season starts, it'll all be about trying to fit in with the show univere (as it is revealed), or reacting to it...or worrying about how it's all going to turn out etc. etc.

Plus, I'm not really looking forward to the return of Dread. This is one of the few shows where I think I'd prefer to know how it all turns out beforehand. During the second half of the last season, I worried during each episode that they were either a)going to randomly kill bobby, just to make everything more depressing or b)some how manage to top Heaven & Hell in sheer stupidity. But now that I know how it all turns out (this season, at least), I enjoy the episodes a lot more.

It must be a personality thing. I don't really have an idea of how it "should" go..but I don't know. I'm the same with books. More often than not, the first thing I'll do after reading the cover description is to read the last few pages. I like to know, especially with more suspenseful or emotional stories, that there's a good ending, that it's all working towards a worthy payoff. With authors I already know, and series I love, if it's going to be suspenseful, I like to see who will survive 'til the end so I can be stoic about it.

I love knowing vaguely where a story is going so that I can appreciate the art of getting there. I'm not a spoilerphobe, but I'm not actually all that fond of them, because they don't allow me to witness that art. They just....give away surprises.

My favorite stories are the ones where you can look at the ending, and tell it is a good one, but it really doesn't mean anything or make sense until you wind your way through the entire book.

Dean is so right, Bobby IS awesome. And so was this fic. It is sort of on the same vein as we've been saying around my house, that Impala is "MagiCar". Ability to camoflauge itself from cops, can travel what should be a 7 hour trip in 2, etc. I really think John may have had some spells put on her way back when. :)

Go superpowered Bobby! (He probably "magicked up" every replacment part he got for Dean after the crash also.)

I even put that into one of the first fics I ever wrote. :-)

I think you forgot the link ;)
