SPN Meta: Season Five Random Blithering Speculation

The traditional pre-season theory post, so as things unfold, I can go "See, I was right!" or, much more likely, people can point and laugh at how wrong I was.

Random slap-dash Speculation about Supernatural Season 5 (NO SPOILERS, SPEC ONLY)

-The Four Horsemen are coming! I'm certain! \o/ Why? Alastair said that sickle in "Death Takes a Holiday" came from a friend who "doesn't really ride a pale horse, but he does have three amigos". You don't put a gun that huge on the wall unless you intend to fire it. Also, (and this is a dead giveaway), the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse appear in a Metallica song (which skips War and goes with Time instead, which you'd think would be a more direct swap with Death as a fellow embodiment of entropy, but anyway). This is Kripke we are talking about. Any chance to reference something Metallica did is probably gold to him. I really hope if they do show up, he uses them as a continuing Bad for several episodes, rather than they way the Seven Deadly Sins were done in in a single episode, [gamermode]kind of like the DM vastly underestimated the required challenge rating and sent a band of kobolds up against a 20th level Wizard, a 20th level Fighter, a 12th level dual class Fighter/Psioniscist and a 10th level NPC Druid with a plot-hook. Not that I know a damn thing about D&D 3e.[/gamermode]

-Also if the Horsemen show up and the Croatoan Virus returns or is referenced as being a project of 'Pestilence' I will squee myself stupid. Not even because I totally called it in huge type and everything, but dude. Continuity bomb FTW! \o/

-At some point this season, Lucifer is going to be taking over Sam. Because that ups the stakes and puts Sam and Dean into a horrible position, and the writers' like nothing more than to put Sam and Dean into horrible positions.

-Before then, Sam will have a Harry Potter thing going on, with having a sense of where Lucifer is, and maybe, judging solely from the 'he's coming' at the end of 4.22, be drawn towards Lucifer somehow against his will. Although Kripke might have an allergic reaction to the concept, it was definitely being implied. I think.

-The whole continuing Sam's blood etc theories and Dean theories, and all that other stuff I keep yabbling about, I'm still thinking some of it could be coming up. Starting from the 'big secret' in season 2, going through stuff in my Season 4 predictions, Dean's birth/YED's Plans/Observer effect stuff, Dean and fate and saving the world with Lucky Charms, Yin and Yang and Winchesters preserving the balance, all the way to post-finale Spec from back in May. There's bits and pieces in there that I still think might apply. Coherence needed.

-I was thinking Big L might bring back YED as a reward for not screwing up, but YED is dead by Colt and... Yah know, I don't think Lucifer's going to have a problem either re-generating YED after a Colt-death. Or he won't care. Hard to say. Reconstitute him out of Sam's blood? That'd hurt.

-Time travel by angel is an option available to the writers. I'm thinking we might get more backstory, possibly of the Colt.

-I really, really want Colin Ford and Jensen Ackles to do scenes together. I don't care if it's by de-aging Sam, or sending Dean into the past, or what. I just want to see the two of them do a scene together.

-Bobby will probably... Nope. Not gonna say it. It feels inevitable but stranger things have happened. I just have horrible trepedatious feelings about that panic room, and that top vent. Demons can't get in, but demons could pour things in. O.O

-There will be more Chuck because there must be more Chuck. \o/

-Castiel, at some point is going to lose his gas bladder 'Grace' and Fall. Except he'll already be on Earth so he won't have to go the same 'getting reborn as human' path as Anna and will end up (from a mundane viewpoint) being Jimmy Novak with a really messed up dissociative personality. HOWEVER!!! I think if this does happen, it will wind up being for a larger reason that is not immediately obvious, part of a larger plan, and he'll return to being an angel in the end. Or die, but keep a happy thought.

-Castiel and Lucifer (and Zachariah) being brothers will be riffed on in some way, because it's a family connection and this show does family up, down and sideways. (Hee! Now I've got this thing running through my head of Castiel going "Dad's gone on a hunting trip and he hasn't been home in a few days," and getting one of the other angels to go off with him and hunt for God. XD)

-Anna. I don't think she's dead. I don't know if she got re-de-Graced or if her and the Angel flunkies (who had damn well better be smarter than Demon flunkies) just beamed out to get her re-indoctrinated, but I don't think we've seen the last of her. I still want her to be secretly plotting, damn it. But I kind of want everyone to be secretly plotting, so there you are.

-Also, if the Trickster turns out to be God in hiding, observing events, I have no idea what I'd do. Laugh for one.

-[Theories and spec which are being supported or denied by the thankfully few spoilers I have encountered are not listed here.]

-I'd be cool with this being the last season. Obviously a sixth season would be awesome too, if only to see what kind of crack plotlines start showing up once they go off the edge of Kripke's map. :-)

-I have no doubt that no matter what happens, or how bad things get, in the end, the strength of the family bond between Sam and Dean will beat everything. Fate, Destiny, Apocalypse, screw it. Sam and Dean are brothers and that will save them (and save the world, but who cares about the world, really). It's been the primary theme running through the show since the start, it's been running all through every season, and it'll come through in the end. The Apocalypse will be averted because Dean gave Sam the last of the Lucky Charms, and Sam gave back the toy. My zen is unshakable. \o/

IF THERE ARE SPOILERS CONFIRMING OR DENYING ANY OF THIS, I DON'T EVEN WANT TO KNOW THEY EXIST. SPECULATION, THEORY AND MUSING ONLY. NO SPOILERS IN COMMENTS PLEASE! :-D

Okay, I am utterly spoiler free, so anything I say here comes straight from my own head:

-The Four Horsemen are coming! I'm certain! \o/

Yes, and for the same reason; they've been name-checked. Plus, it's the Apocalypse!

Also if the Horsemen show up and the Croatoan Virus returns or is referenced as being a project of 'Pestilence' I will squee myself stupid.

I hope something more happens with that virus than just: "Sam's immune; the demon blood when he was six months old really worked". It could just be that, but I hope there's more to it.

At some point this season, Lucifer is going to be taking over Sam.

I've been waiting for this since Season Two! I thought it would happen at the end of last season, with Lucifer rising. I was sure Lucifer was going to leap into Sam and use him as a vessel, but that didn't seem to happen. The fore-shadowing of this has been mega. And Sam has now well and truly fallen through Pride, so ... Yeah, I'm sure this is going to happen sometime.

Before then, Sam will have a Harry Potter thing going on, with having a sense of where Lucifer is, and maybe, judging solely from the 'he's coming' at the end of 4.22, be drawn towards Lucifer somehow against his will.

Not so sure about this one. Maybe, maybe not.

The whole continuing Sam's blood etc theories and Dean theories, and all that other stuff I keep yabbling about ...

It's a whole different ballgame, but I can't stop thinking about Buffy and Dawn and "It's Summers' blood" and the little sister being literally made out of the big sister. Dean and Sam are going to save the world as Dean-and-Sam. It's their bond that will defeat evil. Things go badly wrong when they try and do things separately, and if the angels think that they can use Dean to save the world without Sam being involved then they just haven't been watching the show.

I was thinking Big L might bring back YED as a reward for not screwing up

Nah, I think YED is dead.

Time travel by angel is an option available to the writers.

Will Sam get to do some time-travelling? Dean's had his go, surely it's Sam's turn. Or did he already do that when YED showed him what happened on the night Mary died. Hmm.

Bobby will probably...

BITE YOUR TONGUE. NO, NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. BECAUSE HE'S AWESOME.

There will be more Chuck because there must be more Chuck. \o/

Yes.

Castiel, at some point is going to lose his 'Grace' and Fall.

It's all about obedience (in Kripke's world, anyway) and Cas does seem to have been manipulated as much as anyone else. I suspect he's not going to be feeling too obedient anymore. So, yes, more than likely, I'd say.

Anna. I don't think she's dead.

She'd better not be dead! And if she was in charge of Cas when they were all obedient together, then she'd be a logical person/angel for him to go to now that he knows he's been played. I want a serious angel resistance happening against Zachariah and his scum colleagues.

Also, if the Trickster turns out to be God in hiding, observing events, I have no idea what I'd do. Laugh for one.

Where is God? Will we ever see sign of Him/Her? I suspect in Kripke's world God has well and truly left the building and humans and demons and angels are all having to do the best they can without an ultimate arbiter. I'm going to suggest that God remains conspicuous by His/Her absence for the rest of the show.

I have no doubt that no matter what happens, or how bad things get, in the end, the strength of the family bond between Sam and Dean will beat everything.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Sam and Dean are each other's angels; together they can save the world; separately things go wrong. So I want a season of them working together to save the world, except when Sam=Lucifer, which I'm also sure is going to happen.

Ultimately, the power of love, in this case between Sam and Dean, is going to defeat any and all forms of evil. In which case I'll borrow from SPN for one of my sermons, because that's pretty much what my religion says. Without the cute boys. Or the demon-blood-drinking. Although there is the drinking of Jesus' blood. Agh, got to stop now; am starting to go crazy.

Whaaaa...? I never watched Buffy, but that plot development sounds a tad cracky.

Oh, it was this whole thing with Dawn originally being a key of mystical energy who was turned into a human by some monks in order to hide her from a Hellgod. Everyone's memories were altered so they thought she'd been there all along while the viewers stared at the screen and went "Huh?" Not cracky at all, really. *grin* In the end Buffy died in Dawn's place because they had the same blood. And then she got better. Sort of.

He's just the wise older character that usually ends up dying in these sorts of things.

Back to the Buffy thing: Rupert Giles survived the series! And Gandalf may have died, but he returned. Obi Wan Kenobi was kind of still around. Admittedly Dumbledore stayed dead. But there are some old, wise characters who survived their proteges rise to power. Bobby had better too!

It would save a great deal of tiptoeing around to avoid offending assorted religions for the writers.

Yeah, there were parts of the angels' actions last season that had me humphing: "That's not my God they're talking about". I felt much better when I found out the God wasn't actually directing Uriel and Zachariah. And I suspect I'm not alone there.

Hee! Now I've got this thing running through my head of Castiel going "Dad's gone on a hunting trip and he hasn't been home in a few days," and getting one of the other angels to go off with him and hunt for God. XD

That is... *stares at you with admiration* I LOVE YOUR BRAIN!!!

Oh my god (no pun intended) I really do love that idea!!

I'd love to see Jensen and Colin in a scene together too.

I actually thought Lucifer would wind up possessing Sam from the get go, but I wasn't sure if his anti-possession tattoo would protect him. After all, Lucifer's not exactly the same as other deomns. So it'll be interesting to see if anything along those lines happens. I do love Evil!Sammy... Jared just does it so well! And that would be the ultimate Evil!Sam and would just completely destroy Dean. So yeah. Probably something for either the mid-season hiatus or the last few eps of the season methinks!

Of course, Lucifer possessing DEAN might be even more interesting, because that would be double torture for Sam!!

I must look at this in greater detail later (because OMG!!! they actually want me to WORK) - but I would take up a collection for Kripke if he would adopt your idea and have Lucifer bring back Fred Lehne. NOT various random actors playing the YED, but FRED LEHNE. So there. I would pay extra for Nicki Aycox but she's got that other show. *sulks*

And Henricksen. And Ronald. Seriously, he needs to stop killing off the good characters. If he's entertaining any thoughts of killing Chuck, we need to hunt him down and slap him silly.

Dean'n'Sam together forever the end. Yup.

Also, if the trickster is God I will totally spaz out. *hee*

As always, I love your speculation--but I am still hoping for the horsemen to come in riding(and one horse to be named Binky, sue me):P Also, with the fanfic I have read, Sam being posessed is definitely a go, hee hee. And whumping Castiel, let it commence;) Anyway, all that aside--woooooo almost here!!!!! *Flails like an idiot*
