Original Drabble: The Spring-Stealers
Title:The Spring-Stealers (PG)
A/N: An original bizarre drabble. Because I'm insane and it's Daylight Savings tonight where I am.
The Spring-Stealers
by Caffienekitty
Nobody knows what they do to that stolen hour of spring. Oh yes, it's theft. People set clocks ahead, stay up 'til two AM to watch it suddenly be three. No gap, but the day is only 23 hours long; elegant thievery.
It's stolen -- an hour of sprouting green, cool rains, new life awakening -- and hidden somewhere.
Months pass.
Eventually it is released, bringing a 25 hour day, but the hour returns scarred. Its life is fading, dimming. The spring hour has become an hour of rusting leaves and frost, slowly drifting into cold dark.
Something happened. Time changed.

Post A/N: For a silly and obscure sci-fi twist I debated an alternate final two words - ... Bulimic chronovores?

My husband, bless him, has a shift that starts a two am. And is never sure how to clock in at a time that doesn't exist.

(I'm one of those people who wishes they'd just do away with DST. Just leave the clocks alone. It's gonna take me two weeks now to get my body clock adjusted.)

I wish they'd go back to making all regions that observe it around the world do it on the same day at least. Some don't change until April. Not having it at all would be good. I'd rather leave work after dark than get up before dawn. It's rather an archaic convention anyway. One of our provinces doesn't do Daylight Savings at all because it doesn't make any difference to the crops and farm animals. Also studies have shown that the Monday after the start of Daylight Savings has a statistically significant higher number of accidents.

Your brain is indeed very twisty.

I like this....but now I'm picturing that hour having all sorts of either exciting adventures or Dean-like crises where it fights to keep itself and the world together so the world can be made right again....COOL :D

I used to, but I've gotten out of the habit. ;-)
