End of Season 5 tonight. Holy crap, eh?

In honour of the occasion, instead of the usual THUUUURSDAY icon, I'm putting up the Zen of Kripke icon, because I suspect tonight will require So. Much. Zen. O.O

(And possibly a new mantra at the end...)

ETA: HA! I forgot I'd set an alarm ages ago to remember to put the tape in the VCR today. Just as I went to shut down the computer and get to work the damn thing went off. The sound I'd set for an alert noise was a full-throated, full-volume shriek. I'm now peeling myself off the ceiling. XD

I'm trying to think good thoughts. 'Cause I have a shiny, brand-new TV and I would hate to have to throw things at it.

In the meanwhile... I've spent much time trying to figure all this out. Kripke says he had the final scene in his head right from the get-go. But...since he's changed and retconned and flip-flopped so many things in 5 seasons, I can't settle on a particular thing that he could have envisioned way back when. The man has me mystified.

I'm somewhat mollified by the fact that the ep won't end with a white-on-black text card that says SAM BECKETT NEVER RETURNED HOME. There was sobbing that night. Glad I don't have to re-live *that* experience.

Speculation? (Unspoilery. TOTALLY unspoilery.) It has something to do with the Horsemen's rings being magnetic. They used up a lot of screen time nailing that little factoid to the wall.

I think that the core hasn't changed, and that the ending I've been seeing all along can still happen with all the changes and extra mythology, but... we'll see. There's a lot left to do in 40 minutes.

I figure they form a key, and somewhere in the church is a little three-lobed indent which will trigger the opening of the cage and a crap-load of special effects. Magnetism could be part of the unlocking process. I'm also wondering how much of the budget they saved up during the year to blow on this ep.

The one thing that I've been able to come up with in my massive speculate-a-thon is...

Kripke envisioned a Thelma-and-Louise style ending, with the boys driving the Impala off a cliff into Hell. Figure: the rings are magnetic. Stick 'em to the car and make a cage out of it. Lure Samifer inside, trap him there, and drive the car into Hell. Would've worked as a show ender, given that Kripke *loves* to steal. And since we've got a Season 6? God can just (finally) show up and fish the boys back out of the Pit.

What do you think? Sound plausible?

I can't comment on this, because it would involve discussing a spoiler I heard (one that's kind of a 'no shit, Sherlock' spoiler, but still, I follow my own rules ^.^) , but I'll either address it in the reaction post or come back later.

*pouts* England is mean. I can't watch until after I do a presentation tomorrow morning....so 11am at the earliest. And I feel so detached from it all this season (to the point where I didn't realize we were already on the finale until...oh yesterday?)....it's much different when you can't actually watch it on TV and flip out with fellow fans.

Oh, I'm taking a vacation over the weekend and watching on monday. It occurs to me that I can hit up the flist then and have them warn me of any permanent character death. I tend to get very nastily shaken when Permanent Character Death (PCD) is sprung on me unexpectedly, but with a warning I can at least prepare the required amounts of zen. Indeed, I think it's the only area where I always want to be spoiled.

I'm... panicking, but also not because I sort of have Zen going.... And trying to get my hands on an apple pie, because I love it as much as Dean loves pie in general, so it's both a comfort food for me and show-related. Also I'm playing all my Metallica CDs on repeat, because I associate Metallica with Dean and with the show in general more than I do any other music.

Also hoping Crowley's in the episode. And doesn't die. Because I really like him. But I refuse to look for cast spoilers because I want to be surprised because I squee more.
