Sherlock: News, LJ comm/meme and a wee ficlet.

Sherlock has been renewed! \o/ I don't know any details because I have to get to work ten minutes ago and I've joined the currently spamtastic sherlockbbc comm (my f-list got fifty billion miles long overnight when the UK was awake) so I haven't seen interview transcripts, but Moffat's confirmed it in a TV interview, so YAAY! \o/

LJ Comm, see above, posting rate right now is astounding. There's also a walloping huge comment fic thing at sherlockbbc_fic. Not restricted, so mind your step if you are bothered by things. They've got a del.icio.us whatever thing, (link's in the compile post there) with fills categorized so you don't need to wade through the 3000-odd comments of fic and fills to find reading material.

I've filled one, very quick conversation, reposting here now:

"What the blazes? Why are you wearing my cardigan? Backwards?"

"I was cold."

"It doesn't even fit you! And you usually wear your ruddy great coat! And did I mention backwards?"

"I needed my wrists free. The sleeves were trailing in the chemicals and throwing off my results."

"...You're using my cardigan as a lab smock?!"

"Yes. The pockets are quite handy. I've got two sample bags in each. Mud, saliva, rat intestines and, ooo. That peculiarly pungent fecal matter from the doorman's shoe."

"You put- I-"

"Oh, I'll give it back after the reaction's done, John. Don't fret. Mrs. Hudson can mend the burnt spots-"

"I'm not your seamstress, love."

"Amazing hearing, that woman."

"Holmes- You-"

"Yes, Watson?"

"Oh, just, never mind!"

"Fine then. Could you pass me the- Where are you going?"

"Upstairs!"

"Doing what?"

"BLOGGING!"

It's very addictive and there's not much of it at this point, so it's not like you'll lose a week catching everything up. With renewal they may start airing it in other regions too, so *fingers crossed*

I think that's the first Sherlock fic I've ever read!

Moffat was tweeting quite a lot about how good the ratings have been over here - 7 million+ for each ep I think it was. So I'm not surprised it's been renewed. Although the BBC are a bit strapped for cash at the moment I think!

It's done really well for audience, airing Sunday nights or no. That's about a 30% audience share, which would equate percentage-wise to... *does rough calculations* having 70 million people watch it in the US. I think.

Although the BBC are a bit strapped for cash at the moment I think!

If the BBC would make these things internationally available and charge reasonable rates on their DVD sets, they'd make a heck of a lot more money, I think.

I haven't caught this show. It's exctly like when my flist was all gaga over Merlin and I was like "Who the what now?" and then 6 months later found it on Syfy and fell in love. So let me get in on this one earlier, *off to google local listings*

I'm kind of enjoying the mad rush right now, although it's making getting work done ridiculous, even though I'm just skimming a lot because most of the fic isn't my preference. I suspect traffic will either die down as things settle in, or some kind soul will set up a newsletter and collect links. It's good this is happening during the North American TV summer break though, or the combined traffic would be insane.

Really, the fandom needs a newsletter and a categorized recs comm. There's a massive outpouring of creativity and information right now and no data triage or rudimentary indexing. I don't know anyone with the time and know how to do it though.
