ANNOUNCEMENT
I've always said I'd stick with Livejournal until it dies, but the limit has now been reached. So, unfortunately, over the next long while I will be transferring my primary journal activities to my Dreamwidth fractured mirror.
You're all welcome to follow me on there, but I won't be friending back (or whatever they call it) for a long while until I can figure out how to reinstate the filters on some filtered posts. Right now everything is far too exposed over there. This will be a very rocky process.
I'm also looking for:
-Clear simple instructions on how to download and backup the stuff I have in Livejournal's Scrapbook, along with its folder structuring.
-An image hosting service that's cheap/free and reliable and offers at least 2gb of space.
-Places on Dreamwidth to find fandom communities there.
I'm sure more things will crop up as this process gets underway.
If I manage to write anything during this period, it will be posted to my AO3 account I do have a semi-active tumblr that I'm currently reblogging a lot of Merlin and random things on, and very rarely posting anything myself.

Can you DM me how it goes? I'm seriously considering doing the same. Not that I journal much anymore but I don't like the new TOU

It's free as well, so it doesn't hurt to sign up and poke around. There are a couple LJ evacuee communities for finding fans and fandom spaces on DW. Here's a pretty comprehensive advice and link list about transferring to Dreamwidth.

And if you find anything decent to read on DW, please share. Nobody likes me enough to tell me anything.

I have a journal there, but I'll have to get to it and try to friend you there.

There is a lot of stuff on your journal that would be heartbreaking to just have not exist anywhere anymore.

Just a heads-up
Unfortunately, I can't give you any advice on anything else you asked (I just mirrored on DW back in February, when watsons_woes started getting worried). But I happened to notice the link problem on my own new DW, so I've been passing it along whenever I see someone moving.
Good luck with the transition.
Re: Just a heads-up
What I will probably do (after I get the downloading and hosting figured out) is pick away at fixing the coding a post at a time, and if someone requests a specific post, I'll fix the links and whatnot on that one next. I really need to get the graphics straightened out first though so I can do all the link editing once and not have to go back again for the imgs.
That said, I just worked a 10 hour shift and got home at 2 am and have a similar day tomorrow, so coding and writing etc is unfortunately having to take a back seat for a while.
Ugh. I keep wishing fandom had clubbed together somehow and bought LJ when Six Apart or whoever was selling. Things would have been so much simpler.
