Sam's sudden voice drifting across the gulf between the beds could have been startling if Dean weren't still awake.

"Dean, what Zachariah said-"

"It's a total load of crap. If I'm a vessel, why did Castiel's voice hurt me, hunh?" Words snapped out, certain. "There's no way it's true. Zach's crazy. A lying douche."

"So you aren't even gonna tell Bobby?"

"Hell no."

"What about asking-"

"I'm nobody's freaking vessel. Or sword." Or blunt instrument, his own voice echoed in his mind.

"But you could ask Castiel-"

"Just forget about it. Go to sleep, Sam."

Asking Castiel meant admitting it was possible. And it wasn't. It couldn't be.

This is what I thought of, too, when I saw the episode. I tried to explain to Flurry, but she's not obsessed, so didn't see my point.

Jep, sounds perfectly like Dean. Although somehow after their last exchange I can't picture them sharing a room that night. ;(

I don't think Dean distrusts Sam so much that he won't sleep in the same room with him. Actually, if Dean's sleeping in a different room, then he'd have no idea whether Sam was sneaking in or out for whatever purpose, so if anything, he'd be more likely to keep sharing rooms. Actually getting deep sleep or letting Sam drive the car might be a whole different story though.

You are ritgh but still I think they (or Dean) need to cool down a bit before they share a room again. Beause of the reasons you stated I think that would be pretty soon (next night?) but I do believe Dean and Sam would spent this one night not together but sulking on their own ;)

Yep, I think this is EXACTLY what Dean would have been thinking about what Zachariah said. And I don't think it's so much that he thinks it's crap but he doesn't think himself worthy. If Zachariah had said it about Sam, Dean would probably have believed it!

I wondered about the 'not being able to hear Castiel' thing without it hurting, but he hurt Jimmy at first too. I didn't quite understand that in The Rapture - how we had the TV fritzing and Jimmy curled up on the floor in obvious pain at the beginning (like Dean in Lazarus), and by the middle of the episode he was telling his wife that Castiel was 'talking' to him... Hmm... I wonder if maybe it's vessel to angel specific? Like Castiel could only use Jimmy and Claire (i.e. the same family line) as vessels, which is why Dean can't hear him, but maybe Dean WILL be able to hear Michael...???? In which case Sam might be able to as well. (Now I'm wracking my brains thinking whether we've seen an angel other than Castiel possess more than one person...)

I was wondering about the exact same thing. Directly before Castiel takes Jimmy (when he is stanging outside his house) he is talking to the Angel and is not in pain whereas the first time he defenitely was. Strange thing.

Yeah, maybe Dean's on a different frequency? Like Castiel's radar and Michael will be microwaves or vice versa.

Asking Castiel meant admitting it was possible. And it wasn't. It couldn't be.

The simplicity is so awesomely loaded. Daddy issues, possible self-esteem issues, possible sheer refusal to turn himself into one of those freaks, or simply *needing* to hang onto his own self-identity as a person, not just a thing. And trying to hold off feeling obligated to sacrifice his identity as a human for the greater good.

That's a scary thought. Not as scary as being connected to Kripke's though, so that's good. XD
