In the wake of the Nepal Earthquake disaster, the [livejournal.com profile] fandomaid Comm has set up a "Buy It Now"-style page to help promote donations to disaster relief charity agencies. According to the campaign alert there may yet be a full fandom auction for Nepal in future, but meanwhile there's the quick deals page.

For those new to fandom charity drives, the concept is simple: people offer to make fanworks (or send little gifts, or beta or whatever) in exchange for (in the Buy-it-Now style of auction) a set minimum amount to be donated by the first person to claim the offer. Further details of the process are on the page linked above. To help out you can claim and donate, or offer your talents, or signal boost the fundraiser to other fandom spaces, on LJ and elsewhere.

[livejournal.com profile] ash48 made a video for my [livejournal.com profile] fandomaid donation (which she did very kindly since I think I got in too late to count as winning, but she did it anyway)! I can't watch it yet because I need to watch all of season 9 of Supernatural first and that is gonna take a while! Arg. I'm okay with that though, and [livejournal.com profile] ash48 has been very kindly keeping me updated on progress and warning me that it contains major info on season 9, which was also extremely kind and thoughtful. I look forward to watching the video when I've caught up, but in the meantime, I figured I should let everyone else know about it.

[livejournal.com profile] ash48's post for the vid is over at her LJ. The vid is set to "Lonely Road to Absolution" by Billy Talent, and it's all about Supernatural's Kevin Tran in season 9. She also says it is not a happy vid, but given the song I asked her to make a vid to, that's not too surprising. :-)

(Comments disabled here, go watch it and comment on [livejournal.com profile] ash48's journal to tell her how awesome it is!)

As you probably all know, the Philippines has been whacked recently by what might be the biggest Typhoon in recorded history, with still-mounting human and infrastructure damage. True to form, fandom is again fundraising for disaster relief.

[livejournal.com profile] fandomaid is having a "Buy it now" style fundraiser for Typhoon relief charities. Instead of bidding, the suggested donation is set and whoever claims first and provides proof of the amount being donated to one of a suggested list of charities gets the win. (Remember Canadians, the Federal Government is matching donations for disaster relief up until December 8th, so you can make your donation for the fundraiser and have it get doubled.)

So if you want to help out and you have some cash available to donate, take a browse through the many and varied offerings of fanworks or other things and make a claim. If you're low on cash, consider making an offer of your own for others to peruse and claim, or signal boost and pass the word along. Further details at [livejournal.com profile] fandomaid or at their Tumblr.

There are a couple things I'd like to suggest you go check out.

Faint Dark - An Original fic by [livejournal.com profile] ciaranbochna - Magic realism, myths and legends, with a shading of horror. Located here: Part One, Part Two, and Part Three

and
Auctions for disaster relief - There are currently two fandom auctions being run to raise donations for hurricane relief that I know of, I'm sure there are more:
-[livejournal.com profile] spn_bigpretzel is running a Hurricane Sandy Fundraiser Auction. This is primarily Supernatural fans, though there are crossovers offered as well.
-Australia-based [livejournal.com profile] fandomaid is running a North American/Carribean Superstorm Crisis Fundraiser which is pan-fandom.
If you can, I encourage you to offer something to be bid on in an auction, or bid on someone's offering if you can afford to, or if you can't do either then signal-boost and let other fans know where to go to get involved in fundraising.

I'm not making an offer for the auctions myself this time because I still owe two auction fics and it wouldn't be fair to offer fic again with those still outstanding as in progress. The last thing I want to do is disappoint someone in a charity auction. :-/

I have an auction offer up at [livejournal.com profile] help_japan. Not fic this time (since I'm still working on two auction fics and offering more wouldn't be fair), but something completely different.

I'm offering PDF conversion. I will take a big huge story (or a few little stories) you've posted online and make it into a PDF file that people can download and print. See auction for further details. I have no idea whether anyone will want to bid on this kind of thing or not, but I figured it was worth offering.

Whether that offer interests you or not, why not take a browse around the auction, see if you want to bid on or offer anything else. They are on their second 'Word-related offerings' page already, and it's all for a really good cause.

Title: Just A Well-Informed Anxiety
Characters: Sam, Dean (Season 1, shortly after "Bloody Mary")
Rating/Warnings: GEN, PG. Wildly inaccurate hospital procedures and pain management dynamics.
Beta: The scintillating [livejournal.com profile] ciaranbochna!
Word Count: 2400-ish
Disclaimer: Not mine, no ownership claimed.
Summary: In situations where a phone call is impossible, text messaging can connect people. This can sometimes be more of a curse than a blessing.
A/N: The third, last and longest of three otherwise unconnected "Texting with the Winchesters" fics written for [livejournal.com profile] pinkfinity and [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti. After five years in this fandom, I do believe I have finally managed to whump Sam. There's a few months between Bloody Mary and Skin in which Sam's injury and healing time could fit before he's back on screen, but it's definitely off-canon.

Sam woke to the familiar combination of smells and sounds that said 'hospital'. )

Title: Learning Curve
Characters: John, Dean, Sam (From Stanford Era to 1.10, influenced by Season 5 developments)
Rating/Warnings: GEN, PG. This is a little odd, sort of 'moppet-fic' (My Own Personal PEt Theory), so it's probably a little off-canon. Moppet given at the end. ETA: Comments contain Season 5 spoilers.
Word Count: This one, 790-ish.
Beta: The amazing [livejournal.com profile] ciaranbochna!
Disclaimer: Not mine, no ownership claimed.
Summary: The source of a message is as, if not more, important than its content.
A/N: The second of likely three otherwise unconnected "Texting with the Winchesters" fics written for [livejournal.com profile] pinkfinity and [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti.[LJ-only]

Title: Clearing the Line
Characters: Dean, Sam (Stanford Era)
Rating/Warnings: GEN, PG.
Word Count: This one, 350-ish.
Beta: The astounding [livejournal.com profile] ciaranbochna! \o/
Disclaimer: Not mine, no ownership claimed.
Summary: Text messaging is considered as the fastest and most reliable means of communication. Communication is the key.
A/N: One of likely three otherwise unconnected "Texting with the Winchesters" fics written for [livejournal.com profile] pinkfinity who donated to Haiti relief efforts in the lightning round of [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti. I am so sorry for being the slowest lightning ever. More to come. [LJ-only]

The main part of the [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti auction is closed, but I'm in the Lightning Round offering drabbles.

I've never done a charity auction before, so please be gentle with me. :-)

ETA: All gone! [livejournal.com profile] pinkfinity donated $58 and snagged the lot! \o/
