I may be mostly hiatused while life continues to suck, but I'm not forgetting the annual 'I torture a seasonal song' Carolling post.

Since this started as LJ Carolling, and was sort of 'Journal carolling' but this year I'll be posting it on Twitter too so it's more "Online Carolling", I'm going back to the beginning this year with a rendition of "Let It Snow".

Feel free to post your own if you like!

It's past that time of year again, when I torment some poor defenceless holiday tune online.

I usually try to avoid songs that are heavy on religion or Santa, but this darn thing has had me earwormed for a month now. I don't know if I've ever heard a recorded version of this song, but I have a clear memory one of my adult sisters singing it to me over and over when I was about 5. Lyrics, tune, and everything probably vary from whatever the actual version of this is.

"Little Toy Trains" (?)

Record music with Vocaroo >>

As usual I invite anyone inclined to record themselves singing a holiday song on Vocaroo or YouTube or wherever and post it on their Journal.

What even is this year?

Anyway, tree's up, only about 10 days after I'd intended.

I'm now going to see if I can find the original (and only as far as I'm concerned) How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and eat the first Mandarin orange of the season.

Hope the rest of you have been keeping as well as you can. I may or may not sing at you this year, but either way, not tonight.

In my defense, work has been exceptionally hell the past few weeks, and there are other RL frustrations and annoyances distracting me from thinking about things which are fun or nifty. Also for some reason, I didn't mark it on my calendar for this year. *fixes that* So!

AVAST YE SWABS, IT BE INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!

Shiver your booties and plunder your timbers et cetera, and even if you don't have the opportunity to chuck around a few "Arrrr"s or swill some grog, I hope the thought that thousands of perfectly reasonable people all over the world are spending a little time today just being silly for the sake of being silly brightens your otherwise unsilly day.

The government's weather website says, right now:
Snowfall warning for [CaffieneKitty's Location] issued

10 to 15 cm of snow expected on Christmas day.
For the non-metric, that's 4-6 inches. I guess this is what I get for picking "White Christmas" to sing at you this year?

Of course it might not show up at all, but still. I'm not sure if this area has ever truly had a white Christmas with snow falling on the day, they certainly aren't frequent, but there's really no need to try and make up for it all at once. :-)

I hope you all are safe, happy, warm and loved this holiday season, and may the travelers among you get to where you need to go.

NASA has had a long tradition of sending music into space to wake up the astronauts on the space station or in orbiting issions, and usually they hold a contest to select what they transmit.

Well, the new Space Station commander, Chris Hadfield (he's Canadian *grin*) managed to wangle permission to take his guitar to the space station, and has written and performed and recorded an original (Christmassy) song aboard the space station.

It might be the first song recorded on the space station, or even the first song recorded in space, so yeah. And it's not bad, considering he's just an astronaut, not a professional musician. ;-D

He tweets too, @Cmdr_Hadfield, for those who do the Twitter thing.

I've altered the wording on the spoiler policy on my sidebar a bit, from "until it's aired in North America" to what you see there now. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to post anything at all about Sherlock Series 2 until May, and I am pretty sure that simply will not be possible. ;-P

That said, I will be lj-cutting anything I do post referring to Sherlock Series 2 with extra paranoia for a couple months in deference to those lurking around here that won't or can't watch it at UK pace.

Now, New Years! Very soon I'm off on a short road trip to spend New Year's Eve with friends (and then drive back at some ridiculous hour of the morning so I can be home to medicate and deal with the cat, blah) so I'll wish you all a Happy New Year now, whatever side of the calendar you're on.

*confetti*

I have the best of intentions, I do. I also have several Christmas/holiday/winter fics started, (some started years ago,) based in Supernatural, Torchwood, and now Sherlock, that I keep intending to finish in time for Christmas Eve. One day, I'll finish something, post it on time, and either everyone will either drop dead from shock or no one will even remember the fandom. :-P

In case you are really bored though, here are a couple of Christmassy/wintery things I've written previously for Supernatural.

-Eye of The Beholder - [PG] The true value of a gift is entirely subjective. Teen!chesters
-The Film - [PG13] An unexpected find triggers some holiday reminiscences for Dean and Sam. Set in Season 2.
-Desperate Times - [PG13] Snow, a remote cabin, and small arms fire. DRABBLE. Humor

Assorted blather. )

It's raining, and a cold wind is blowing in gusts, and every few minutes another flight of geese or trumpeter swans goes overhead, honking. It's very Christmassy.

Have a good one if you're doing one, and a good whatever if you aren't. :-)
